Later this week I plan a trip to Moab for a few days, I was wondering if the roads high in the mountains were clear yet.

Well, we just got back from the north rim of the Grand Canyon, and the forest roads at 9000 feet were free of snow. These were not plowed roads -- just dirt logging roads. Are you planning to go higher than that?

I don't know what the elevation will be above Moab. The mountains in Co. and Utah have gotten a lot of snow this past winter and many forest roads here are still closed. Where we camped last week the road was covered at about 9500 feet with 3 feet of snow.

I don't know if you're thinking about the roads in the LaSals or further north toward the Uintahs, but here is a link to the status of seasonal closures as of May 29th. (The CDOT website is a lot easier to find info than UDOT.) We've been in the Lasals in early winter and early spring and they have had the Lasal mountain loop plowed, but I can't vouch for what they do during a heavy snow year.

All the LaSal Mtn roads are open. Bring bug spray and jackets.
Are you going to be camping at the place I recommended?

I just got back from Moab. We camped on the LaSal loop road and while I didn't do the pass road, it seemed open.
It snowed on us on Vail Pass on the way out, (May 24) and the rest area at exit 190 was closed and snowed under. On the way back (June 2) the rest area was open and there was minimal snow. Shrine pass is still under snow, tho.
So I guess what I'm sayin is that there's been a lot of melting going on in the last couple weeks.
have fun. Metal Masher is a great trail.

We looked at that spot you recommended a few weeks ago, a good place to camp and ride, easy to get the MH in and out. This trip I am just taking 1 of my grandsons (7 years old) and the truck with a ATV trying to find a place high in the mountains to camp in Aug. when friends from Okla. City come to visit.

Bent Arrow, you might check out John Brown Road access from Gateway or Castle Valley, not a road I would recommend for a MH tho'. Also you can go up from our side (Hwy 90 from Naturita) to Buckeye Lake. Lots of different options.
