Take a look at the Compaq Presario V6700TX. This one comes with XP, not Vista. It comes with wireless and an option is a Verizon air card.

Has anyone successfully upgraded a computer that came with Vista to XP? I'm at witts end with my Vista computer. But the more I research it,the more I'm afraid to attempt it. Too much information about hardware/driver conflicts when trying to go to XP from Vista.

Wow, didn't know they were still around. Wouldn't recommend it though.

The first thing to do with a new computer is to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. Things will work much smoother and faster getting rid of all the garbage that comes on them.

I was told by my local computer shop, that if the computer was a laptop they have not been successful removing Vista and installing XP. The problem was the drivers for the Bios that were Vista would not work with XP. I was told the same thing by Dell when I wanted to order a new Inspiron 1525 and the said the Bios was not compatible with XP that I would have to order XP on a 1520.

all 3 vista machines are HP ordered new with Vista... One desktop with 4gb and two laptops with 2gb.
We've installed tons of fixes and SP1 and still have lots of problems with basic networking like sharing printers etc.

I find it very amusing that XP has become routinely referred to as an extra cost "upgrade" from Vista. Totally cracks me up. Only M$ could have created this situation.

Actually Dell gives you a refund instead of charging extra. They do, however, charge extra to remove all the c&*p that they usually install.
