I am a resi junkie too. We have trips planned for the rest of 2008 and will start working on 2009 very soon. We have to plan way ahead due to four teenage sons and their sports, college stuff etc. As soon as we know football schedules we plan our fall trips around home and away games. We camp through New Years, and then take Jan. off and sometimes Feb. We have trips planned for March, April and May around baseball. I really do not call it being a junkie, I call it being prepared. We can alway cancel if we need to but getting that prime spot at the last minute is impossible. Due to our schedules we only made forty nights last year and it looks like about the same this year. We would love to do more but the boys sports are where it's at for the couple of years.

The more experience you have the more comfortable you'll be in pre-planning. If your destination is expected to be crowded then plan as far ahead as possible and make the reserevation. If it's not going to be crowded then go on the fly and save the fees. Think, for a moment about how quickly those fees add up and go without the advanced reservation. Learn to Plan B. Now, that's fun. You'll be amazed at the gems (campgrounds) you'll come across. Some of the best places we've ever stayed out were because we didn't make a reservation. Yes, we have run into a couple of dumps but that gives us great future conversation.

I am a planner and also prefer to make reservations whenever possible. I like the security of having reservations, as we mostly go to State and National parks where without them, you probably face a "campground full" sign. We also tend to go to new places each trip and never know quite what we will experience. This also makes me want to have reservations. Sometimes we have a reserved site at a campground that is half empty, but the peace of mind is worth it to me. Reserve America fees are minor change compared to fuel prices, so I don't even think about them..

Do what works for you.. I do what works for us.. There is no correct answer for everyone.

No you are not a junkie. If I do not plan ahead the campsite will be gone. On longer trips I plan for several days on dates due to weekends fillup at our state parks and COE here in Tx. With some 3 day holidays with in months of each other I start as soon as possible. It is not any different from hotels for those that do not RV.

Hi, my name is Steve (also) and I thought I was a reservation junkie until I read the posts in this thread!

I planned our trips to the nth degree for the first few years. Then one year we'd planned a 4-month 15K mile trip and a couple of months before we left, a couple that lives nearby invited themselves to buddy with us. After 4 days of enduring their noxious attitudes, we called ahead and canceled most of our plans for the rest of the trip and winged it.

We still make reservations for destinations and for critical or popular stop-over sites. But, the rest is up in the air.

As for ReservationAmerica . . . we try not to let little things like that get between us and staying where we'd like to stay.

I don't have reservations but I've already been researching destinations and campgrounds for our bigger trips for 2009 & 2010, the weekend ones will fall into place around those

We traded in our PUP last month and are picking up our new 2009 Surveyor Sport 186 trailer next week. We can't wait to have our first camping trip of the season in our new trailer! Yes, we are camping reservation junkies too. We've camped for years and always have a reservation - it was wonderful to find fellow reservation junkies on this forum. Have a wonderful summer!
