Hi
We are taking a family vacation at the end of June, heading from Northern Maryland down to Myrtle Beach SC. I am looking for a campground for 1 night somewhere around mid-state NC, not to far from I95,(30 minutes off I95). One with a lake/pond for fishing. Any suggestions

I would suggest Jordan Lake in Apex, NC. This is just outside Raleigh, and is about 20 to 30 minutes from I 40 (I assume you are taking I 95 to I 40 to get to Myrtle Beach) It is a NC State Park but the camp sites are nice, wooded, and some sit right on the lake, we have been able to fish right from the camp site! One bad point is that they don't take reservations for one night stays. Here is the link to their website to tell you more about the campground. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/jord/directions.php

We have stayed at Poplar Point. The showers leave something to be desired, but for a one night stay are do-able! Good Luck!

I can recommend RVacation. They are located right off I-95 at exit 98.

I think that Jordan Lake is going in the wrong direction and certainly more than 30 minutes off of I-95. I second RV Vacation.

OOPS I third RVacation.
We have stayed there twice now and this is our preferred stop along 95 in NC. Great young couple working hard at improving the park and excellent customer relations. Free fishing in a small pond. Free WIFI and reasonable rates. We have never used the restrooms so I can't comment on those.
Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Another ditto on RVacation. It's just real easy to get into and the folks are really nice.
Last time, we were so tired we didn't want to cook, so we ordered delivery pizza from the local joint and that was really good, too.
Hope you enjoy your trip.

KOA Smithfield would be a good second choice.
I have stayed at 2(Wilmington, NewBern) of the 3 owned by the same guy. These are nice parks and woudl be a good place to chill for a night..
You know about halfway in NC on I-95 you are not only maybe 2&1/2-3 hours from MB?

Smithfield (location of RVacation) is also a good place to antique. It is full of shops (down town) and of course it has the required "discount shopping mall" near I95. Also, if you are looking for entertainment, downtown has a Branson/Myrtle Beach type stage show that is really pretty good.
