I just wanted to share my experience with everyone.
A little background, my family consists of me, my wife and 3 young boys. We currently have 3 vehicles. My truck (see sig), the wifes minivan 04 pontiac montana, and I have a jetta for my beater car (daily driver). My truck in the last three years have only been used when it snows or when we go camping. My wife uses the minivan to get the kids to school and for her daily 1.5 mile drive to work. I drive my Jetta to work. So I was thinking of trading my Truck, her minivan in on a new burb or tahoe. So off to the dealer. I went to the dealer that is close to my home. Not my normal dealer just to see what they would offer for a trade in on my truck, and then I would add the van in if all seemed well. What I learned was shocking. The dealer took out the NADA book and showed me exactly what they would give me for my trade. He took the low tradein in rough condition and then - $2000. He said he knows my truck is not is rough shape, it is NEW but this is all they would offer. I said that is fine and said now lets look up the 2008 BURB and take the Low Tradein and minus $2000 and that is what I would like to offer for the purchase price. He said well you are not buying a rough BURB you are buying a new BURB. I said exactly my point. I know that the market for these trucks are not very good right now for me as a consumer or them as a dealer. I am not looking to get into a small vehicle that will not work for my family. I need the room. Don't get me wrong the truck has plenty of room for my family I, as always, want more... I was just thinking as a family it was time for more comfort, but I did not realize I would be taking that much of a bath at the dealership. I mean come on my truck is a beautiful 2006 Chevy 2500HD 4X4 extended cab with only 11000 miles. I guess I will just have to keep it for 10 more years and still only have 70,000 miles on it!
I would like to know if other are experiencing the same thing throughout the country.

Yes, there was a tv program tonight that addressed that problem. Said suvs, and trucks are sitting on the lots, whether they are new or used. Supposedly, book prices on these are dropping like lead weights. GM is trying to sell off Hummer line, plus are shutting down those suv factories.
IMO I would think the best vehicles, like yours, with low mileage, etc, would still retain better selling power? Also, pickup trucks are used in so many business ventures?
If you feel your truck is worth so much more than you are being allowed for trade, why not sell it yourself? Then you can get a real taste of the current market for a truck like yours. (P.S. - don't sit by the phone waiting for it to ring!)....Good luck to you!
times hard or not , still sounds just like typical dealer BS trying to get yours for nothing so they can make money...

Doesn't surprise me a bit. Dealers I pass on my way to work have moved the formally streetfront trucks/SUVs to the back of the lot and replaced them with their smallest, most fuel efficient vehicles. The Toyota/Chevy dealer has basically swapped out one brand for the other with Corollas/Camrys/Prius(if they have any) front and center. I read this morning that the think tank that predicted $4 a gallon gasoline this summer is now predicting $7-$8 a gallon by next Memorial Day. If gas is at that price, where will diesel be? If it happens, even with the one time financial hit, I will no longer own an rv nor full size gas/diesel pickup sadly.

Yes you will...... no one will want to buy them.
I'm almost in that situation right now. The truck hasn't moved in over a year, neither has the trailer.
Maybe I'm not an RV'r anymore.

Everything goes in cycles, just hang on to that great truck till the worm turns. I beat the heat about six months ago. I traded in my 05 2500 Sub got a fair trade in at that time, but I bought another Sub cause I need the room and makes my wife feel safe when we travel. So i'm still in the same old boat! Good luck with your guest
I'd like to upgrade to an Expy or Yukon. I found the same thing - the dealers would rather let them sit on the lots than deal on them.

The dealers don't have a choice, they are marking them down but there is only so much they can lose and still be in business. The manufactures need to come out with better incentives to move the new ones

The dealer probably isnt lowballing you. The reality is theres a glut of used SUV's and trucks on the market right now and prices are dropping daily on them. Go back to the dealer and see if he'll share with you what trucks are selling for at dealer auctions right now. Its nowhere near NADA or KBB trade in value. And chances are, he's not going to give you much more for your truck than what he can get one for at an auction.
