No clue which board this should go on, but I am sure the moderator will get it to the proper place. I am heading out to San Diego Saturday to attend the U.S. Open for the full week. I will be staying at the Santa Fe RV park at approx. I-5 and Balboa. They want us to drive many miles the WRONG direction to go to Qualcomm stadium to catch a shuttle just to go back past where we came from to get to the tourney. I am willing to walk 1+ miles from a parking spot rather than wait for a shuttle bus and sit in traffic after driving the wrong direction to catch it. Does anyone have any ideas of where a fellow could park and avoid the whole shuttle system? Any suggestion would be great. Thanks!

Torrey Pines is surrounded by business parks & University of California at San Diego & the Pacific Ocean. Not a lot of unassigned parking in the area. I am assuming you will be driving your toad. The closest place you might find a spot early in the morning is in the residential area of La Jolla Farms Rd. (near the intersection of La Jolla Shores Dr. & Torrey Pines Rd.). You might be able to park @ University Town Center Mall and catch a transit bus to Torrey Pines (about 3.5 - 4 miles). I saw signs on interstate 5 in the Del Mar/Carmel Valley area today directing people to satellite parking areas for the U.S.Open. That is a lot closer to Santa Fe R.V. than Qualcomm.

While it may seen that you are driving in the wrong direction Qualcom is your best bet. You will not find any parking within a couple of miles of Torrey Pines. There are 17,000 parking spaces at Qualcom and they have a well planned shuttle bus system. The organizers know what they are doing, go with the flow.

Good advice! There are at least 5000 guys who will be trying to find one of those 3 parking spots that aren't already assigned or blocked off for the folks authorized to park there. UCSD students and faculty have lost their parking for the duration of the U.S. Open. The great thing about the Qualcom shuttle is that you'll be delivered to as great a starting spot as anybody who has "special" parking. As jaxd suggests, it's all been "well planned" to ace (and fine) anybody who thinks they will find that one remaining space in front of the club house.

We waited forever to get into the parking lot (using our tow vehicle) at Torrey Pines during the tourney... which seemed like a blink compared to the TWO HOURS we waited to get OUT of the parking lot. Never again. Take the shuttle.

If you are early enough. You might just want to drop down a mile or two on 5 south to See World Dr. They will have shuttles available from that location. It is a dirt lot, but not too far out of your way. If it is full, you can then jump back on 5 south to 8 east, and that will still get you to the Qualcom Stadium parking...
My bet is you should be able to get into Sea World Dr area...
Good luck,

I wanted to update that I can't confirm if the Sea World off ramp parking 'dirt lot' will be open this year. They've recently graded the area, and is has been a location that was used for Torrey Pines events - but looking at the US Open web, this location is not mentioned...
Best of luck!

thanks for the info..... it seems as though the shuttle system may be the way to go......just REALLY don't like driving the wrong way only to sit in traffic to go right past where we started.
