Thanks - that saves me looking for that photo. That's the section south of Walker Fork - many years ago (September 1988) a Princess tour bus pulled over too far to let a fuel tanker by and went over the side. Two people were killed and dozens injured, and that's when the use of pilot cars began for some companies.

The Texan has it right(plenty of room for two vehicles to pass each other).
However, do not pull over when a vehicle is passing by as the shoulders are soft and we waited 6 hours in for a friend who pulled over and had to have a wrecker come from Tok to get him out of the soft shoulder. Also we know of one RV that went over the side last year.
We enjoyed it enough to also return via the TOW and will do it again next year!

My husband and I will be travelling up this highway in July; I really want to travel the Top of the World Highway.... we will be driving from Chicken to Dawson.
My question, (I am a little afraid of heights) in the second photo posted, "Wide enough for 2 motorhomes, but proceed with caution", is that photo showing coming FROM Chicken or GOING TO Chicken. I want to know which way to go that keeps me away from the steep edges the most.
Or, is it advisable to not travel if height fears are a worry? I want to drive that road SO Bad, but not if I am too scared to enjoy it.
Thanks in advance.

Going from Chicken to Dawson, there will be less than a couple of miles where the drop will be on the passenger side and then most of that isn't bad enough for any fear to kick in, a hundred yard stretch here and a hundred yard stretch there. Go, the sights are awesome and worth every minute of the trip.

Thank you. From what I have read; the scenery is worth the drive and I certainly did not want my fears to dictate what route we take.

Not just the scenery: you won't want to miss Dawson City, ferry accross the Yukon and Chicken-gold dredges, etc., etc.

Well I have driven in Swiss MNT and I still think there are spots that are VERY tight for 2 motor homes to pass.We did it last year. And I hope one of them can drive well - backwards - that is what it will take to find a spot to pass
See the pics.
Also I would not drive it by rain - unless you like to slide ..... this dirt has a lot of clay ......
Make sure you take the ferry before the CARAVANS - otherwise you may wait for hours.....

FWIW I spoke to a gentleman from Alaska yesterday about the TOW road. He was on his way back from wintering in Florida in a 40' Pusher. He said the worst of this road is the fuel trucks leaving Tok every 3-4 days to refill stations etc. According to him they go fast and hog the road.
We're taking this under advisement along with everything we read here and will pretty much have our minds made up once we leave Whitehorse. Family there will perhaps be able to advise us further.
