Read your owner's manual. Most manufacturers recommend servicing the wheel bearings annually--unless you have NeverLube bearings.

You should check them now. My first trailers wheels were not packed correctly when NEW, thus when I checked them after the first year. I found two of the wheels dry, and the bearings shot. So check all of your wheels, this way you will have a base or starting point for further service.

I would give them a look now. Trailers nowadays save money on everything possible, including the bearings. I would pull, clean, inspect, and pack with good grease and new seals. < 2 hours time and $10 - it's worth it.

Also, a good habit to get into is taking the temperature of your hubs and wheels when you stop for fuel, or arrive at your destination. A variation in temperature will be an early warning on either the bearing, or an over-worked brake drum.

If they were done properly they are fine. However the only way to know if they were done properly is to remove, clean and inspect. I waited two years and 5000 miles and found one was installed too tight and needed replacement. Manufacturers generally recommend once a year. I plan to wait two to three years before I repack again. I do carry spares just in case.

Check for EZ lube hubs if they are Dexters, you can sometimes lube them from the outside - still never hurts to pull the hubs and check.

My book says annually I believe.

My advice, repack and survey. If with 1500 miles all looks good, you now have a guide if they are in bad shape than a repack sooner will be the norm.

Check them now and you can tow with (more) confidence. It's a great way to get to know your trailer, too.

I bought a used (1994) trailer last October and I know we're not talking about the same thing as a new trailer, but I found a damaged bearing that I replaced while I was cleaning out the black, burnt grease.

When I got to the other side I found a brake shoe that had been rubbing the drum because the retainer spring had fallen off and was in three pieces in the brake assembly.

The previous owners had upgraded to a larger TT after owning this one for 1 1/2 years and had done some great upgrades and repairs. With the wear on the brake shoe I don't see how any brake or bearing maintenance could have been done in that year and a half.

Check 'em now. They're a LOT easier to fix in the driveway than on the side of the highway.

06 Flagstaff here. It also, has low milage. I pulled mine and inspected just because the manual recommended it. Good thing. One of them was a little short on grease. Not dry and the bearing was fine, however, it was a burnt bearing waiting to happen. Don't know about 07's, but, 06 Flagstaff doesn't have EZ-lube Dexters.

Did the repacking myself, I know they are ready for the road.
