I have a Atwood DSI hot water heater in the 98 Tioga. Boy was it loud. I tried adjusting the air on the burner tube to get a blue flame but when I had achived the blue flame the sound was much louder. After much research I found one person that had called Atwood with the same problem and was told to bend the last 1/2" of the exhaust plate to follow the 45* slope. So I removed the burner tube and cleaned (not really dirty) and then bent the exhaust plate as above. WOW that made a big difference I have a nice blue flame and it is really quiet. just wanted to pass this along.

Can you post some photos? I'm having difficulty understanding the modification. Maybe a more detailed instruction for more dense readers?

Well posting a pic. would be very hard for me. Iam trying to sell my 450SL, the pics are so blurry you can't see it. Oh back to the heater.
On my WH on the outside open the access door.
On the top left area there is sheet metal housing. with the front piece sloping on a 45* angle upwards. This plenum or housing guides the hot exhaust up and out the louered area of the WH exterior access door. Now the 45* angle sloping sheet metal has the top 3/4" bent completly vertical (upward). What I had read and did perform was to straighten the 3/4" area to be on the same plane. I hope this helps

Now the access door will close a little tight but works fine.

Thanks, JBR. I'll print that and have it in hand as I look at the water heater. It'll prob'ly make sense then.
