I went to Lowes the other day (on one of the hottest days this year so far) and I was surprised to see a bunch of new GMC trucks lined up in the parking lot with all of the doors open and one lonely salesman trying to find shade.
Feeling bad for the lonely guy I struck up a conversation. He knew I was not interested in buying when he saw my 06 duramax so it turned into a pretty honest conversation about the current economy and truck sales. I was shocked when he told me they were not taking diesel trucks in on trade. He said they simply could not move used diesels. They sent two to auction the previous week and no one even bid on them.
Like many others have said, it seems to be a great time to buy a diesel but I sure would hate to have to sell or trade one in right now or the foreseeable future for that matter.

Over the Memorial Day weekend I stopped by the local small Sears store to pick up some needed tools. There is a Dodge/Jeep dealer next door, they had the ballons flying, a tent set up, salesman standing around and not one visitor. I was in the parking lot a few minutes loading up the roll-a-way tool cabinet and not one car turned into the dealership. To make matters worse, all the cars on the front row are used Toyotas, Hondas types, not one new Jeep/Chrysler product. Times got to be tuff for the sales staff.

I stopped by the dealers at our local giant automall Sunday afternoon to take a look see at what was new out there for my wife when we eventually have to replace her 4-Runner. Granted it was hot and later on in the day...but the place was pretty much empty. Sundays are great days to just go and look when they are closed, and there are usually people all around....but it was a ghost town. The way things are going I would rather see her try get 200K miles on it and pay the gas prices, rather than making a car payment AND have to pay for gas!!

A few folks need pickup trucks. Many folks want pickup trucks. Many fewer want pickup trucks and today's fill-up costs.
Quote: making a car payment AND have to pay for gas Exactly. Anyway, that 4Runner will be good for 250-300,000 miles with regular maintenance. Budget for a transmission transplant, and change all fluids periodically.

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

I stopped at a Dodge dealer in Johnson City, Tn yesterday and was looking at trucks (I have a 2005 QC CTD 4X4) and after looking at the add ons on the window ie: $1495 Admin fee and $3900 for SS side steps and bed liner, it's no wonder thay can't sell them. Salesman said that was $8,000 discount and the MSRP was already $46K and add ons brought it up to $53K RIGHT!!!!!! Let me at it. Also was offered $15K trade in on a left over '07 recently. If they'd given me $20K I'd have bought it. This was in Florida.

I seen used diesel pickups and Excursions in the past month sell for half what they were selling for last year and the CEO's from GM,Ford etc said the party is over for the non commercial full size pickup and SUV market.

I know I live down the street from my small town chevy dealer.. I will see 4-5 duramaxs there and then they are gone, then more pop up and gone.. I know we have 2 hugh copper mines here and the mines will pay up to a certain amount of your truck payment(certain positions, but quite a few of my neighbors have them) they have to have one every so often though... anyways that may have something to do with it...
But in the bigger cities where they drive more, I can see it being slow... feel sorry for the guys at the dealership that depend on sales to make thier house payments and such...
The high gas prices really affects our whole econonmy and everything we do and buy..

I was offered 14k for my 06 F-150 on a trade for an 08 Dodge RAM 2500 gasser. The dealers dont want any trades right now because they are not selling anything used (or new for that matter). My dealer said he hadnt sold a single new truck in almost 2 months. I wouldnt buy now any way until the manufacturers decide to lower the prices. Dodge especially is one of the highest priced trucks for what you get over the other brands.

Same at the local Ford dealer. They have a few "customized" 2008 F-250 PSDs done up by Southern Comfort, I think that is the plastic sticker affixed to the bed side. They have lift kits, bigger tires and rims, fake plastic carbon fiber appliques on the dash and some goofy stripes applied, extra sticker next to factory sticker lists the trucks for $63,500!!!!! For a F-250! Are they nutz? That is almost $15k more than most F-450 owners pay for their trucks. And they wonder why the truck lots are dead.

Quote: Sluggish demand for Dodge Ram pickup trucks has prompted Cummins Inc. to announce plans to lay off 125 workers at its diesel engine plant in Walesboro, just south of Columbus, from June 8 to mid-August.
Rising fuel prices are hurting Ram sales.
In October, the Columbus-based diesel engine maker ended contracts with 90 temporary workers at the plant, and then in December extended a Christmas layoff for about 500 union workers, according to The Republic of Columbus.
