Learjet, the TRAC bar does not refer to traction, the term has to do with how the rig tracks down the road in a straight line versus side to side movement caused by passing trucks, crosswinds, etc.

That throwed me for a curve too. There are sway bars, and there are traction bars,....and this is a sway bar.

Now I am confused. My 1992 P30 chassis has a very heavy (1 or 1.25 inch) sway bar that came with the MH due to the looks of the set up and the age. Do all P30's come with this?
Mine left the factory with a 190" wheel base but I guess due to sitting in a MI field in the rain she grew to 208" before the house went onto her back.
I have never had a sway issue that I have detected after driving it for 3000 miles now.

Actually no, this is a third type of device. An anti sway bar connects both sides together. A trac-bars only function is to locate the rear end and center it throughout its travel. It is more common on coil sprung type suspensions.

Another way to look at it is that it keeps the rear end from moving sideways under the rig (leaf springs alone aren't very good at this). That's why I thought it may be a good addition for a heavy trailer as well.
Thanks for the info guys.

billyboy,
Total length of the top link installed is 30" Both ends screw in and out so it can be shortened or lengthened as needed. This coach almost drives like a car, Tracks true and straight. Passing semi's and crosswinds are hardly noticed.

Sway bars resist roll and track bars resist yaw. The simplest track bars like the one Bluegrassbill built are Panhard Arms.

Agreed, it is not a sway bar. I never knew the name of that bar, but I know what it does, and they are common on many vehicles.
IMO, 30" bar is too short (on such a wide vehicle) to keep the body centered over the rear axle housing thru out it distance of travel. It would be forced to continually move from side to side. The longer the bar, the less side movement there would be.
