any suggestions where else we should see before going home. We have 3 weeks which includes driving time. Hoping to push it and make it to Carlsbad in 4 days.

Mesa Verde, Canyon de Chelly, Hovenweep. That would be some good options. Also Chaco Culture if you are set up for dirt roads.

Does your 3 weeks include drive time? I usually take 5 days to drive to that area and 5 days to return. If you have the time, don't miss Silverton and Ouray while in the area around Durango. Just the drive from Durango to Ouray is spectacular.

If its open, Sitting Bull Falls in Lincoln National Forest (30 miles or so from Carlsbad). http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/lincoln/recreation/caves.shtml This area was closed May 1 due to high fire danger. The drive from Carlsbad to Dog Canyon in Guadalupe National Park (fifty miles one way) has some great scenery with interesting spur roads. If you can handle rustic camping (flush johns - no showers), the NPS campground at Dog Canyon is a great stop. Gary Carver is the ranger there and can off useful tips on hikes & local points of interest.

Have fun, sounds like a wonderful trip - Al

We will be leaving Florida July 20th and need to be back by August 10th. I know it will be hot, but can't be any worse than Florida that time of year.

So is this a tour starting at Carlsbad, crossing New Mexico from south to north, and ending in southern Colorado? There are about a billion things to see and do just in NM, and more in Colorado. Ask, and I'll post a huge list of things just for NM. Meanwhile, I'd recommend that you visit the tourism sites from both sites to get started. I'll get you started with links below.

Frijoles Canyon/Bandelier national Monument, just out of los Alamos NM is,IMHO, more iteresting than Mesa Verde! In any case - take a half-dy from Santa FE and explore it.

Ummm, if you are a ruins buff, Aztec Ruins in Aztec, NM on 550 from Abq. just about 30 miles South of Durango is intriguing. Largest restored great kiva, and visible evidence of two different occupations.
