Anyone thinking about "herbal remedies" needs to be VERY careful. Some herbal remedies that are supposed to boost your immune system can actually make certain types of cancer worse. When Greg was having problems sleeping, he wanted to try taking Melatonin. It turns out that Melatonin also boosts your white blood cells, which is NOT something you want to do when you have lymphoma. Anyway, just be careful, please and be sure to talk to your doctor.

My Papa (maternal grandfather) had colon cancer and lived with a colostomy for over 30 years. He also had "black lung" not really a cancer (they said it was due to him working in a steel foundry for so long). He had most of his left lung removed due to that and lived well for 22 years after that. What finally took him from us, at the age of 89, was cancer in his right lung.
You know, come to think of it Papa is the only person in my family to have cancer.... We have heart disease, chronic autoimmune disease and blood disorders but not as much of the cancer as many of you are sharing about.
God bless each of you and your loved ones going through treatment and of course those of you who are survivors.

I have not had one member of my family have or die from cancer, even extended back to 2nd and 3rd cousins, we're rampant with heart disease and my Dad died from complications of Alzheimer's.
I did lose my closest and dearest friend to Ovarian cancer.

I had my prostate removed via robotic surgery on 5/5/08. Went in on a Monday, out Tuesday afternoon, catheter 10 days. Had follow up with Urologist 2 weeks after catheter removal. Pathology report indicated that it was confined to the prostate. No further treatments are needed. Still slightly incontinent when walking are standing. This is normal and Dr. said it will get better but does not know when. No problems sitting or laying down.
Hospital bill $54,000. Nothing yet on anesthesia, pathologist or surgeon. Cancer ain't cheap.

No sign of anything bad since then. Cat every 6 month.
Many in my family have dies in April, so if I get to May I feel I have at least 1 more year.

My biological father died of brain cancer, they think from years of black tar roofing.
My maternal aunt passed from ovarian cancer.
I think most of us have been touched by this disease in one way or another.
