I just purchased a new to me 2004 Monaco Knight with a 330 Cummings engine. My running Temperature is right at the redline on the Temperature gauge. The coach runs at 205 degrees and the redline starts at 215-220 degrees. is this normal for this engine? I have taken a look at the radiator and everything looks clean.

What else should I look at? The coach only has 14,000 miles.

I agree that is high. I would expect it to run around 180-190*. However, if you we're on I-70 heading west into the mountains, you could reasonably see 205*.

Check to see if the radiator coolilng fans are running at proper speed. If the mh has been driven on a lot of dusty roads, the radiator may be plugged with dirt that isn't visible on the outer fins. Flush the radiator fins with low pressure air or water. If the coolant level was low, you should have a check light on the dash, so that isn't likely.

My truck (in sig below) never runs above 190*, and usually runs at 170*.

I have no clue. Would that be in my owners manual?

Monaco Contact Page is a good place to ask questions include your coach serial number and year. Be sure to register your new to you Monaco also.

Do you have a rear radiator? If so it should be cleaned at least yearly. They will give you instructions but do not use a high pressure cleaner as it can damage the radiator and intercooler. Wolfe 10 recommends a dish detergent like Dawn and low pressure spray. A water heater accessory cleaning wand helps reach. Your engine can get wet be be careful around the electronics.

It could be but I expect you will need to look on a shop manual for your rig. E-Bay is were I find most of mine.

You can call Monaco Tech Support to get the temp of the factory installed thermostat, or talk with the previous owner to see if he changed the thermostat (unlikely). I would expect the factory t-stat to be around 185*, and that would allow the engine to run up to 210* under the most severe conditions (steep grade, hot day, max load, etc.). It should stay at t-stat temp under most driving conditions and run cooler at idle. Does your engine cool at idle or stay at 205*? If it stays hot even at idle, get it to the Cummins Rocky Mtns shop near you.

Those little round gauges are not know for their accuracy. Before getting to carried away I'd buy a IR temp gun-$30 at Harbor Tools. I'd check the temp of the bottom hose going into your radiator as I doubt it will be 205. Agree that cleaning the radiator carefully will not hurt anything and you might want to add a rubber hose to the engine vent tube. Do a search on this subject slobber tube

I know it is not the same engine, but my ISB 300 in my 2003 (Monaco rear radiator) runs at 200-203 on the dash gauge all the time and has done so since new. Does not fluctuate outside of those numbers going up mountains or coasting downhill. Who knows how accurate the dash gauge is, but I figure since it does not fluctuate and I have no warnings ever, I am pretty safe.

Others running my same set up in a Monaco said their gauges read the same...200
