How many days (approx.) do you think it would take to drive from the Banff area to Fairbanks if you didn't stop? Taking #40 then avoiding Top of the world highway (is this the long way?).
We are not in a rush, but do have to get back for work so we don't have the time some of you do.
Just curious if my estimate of 4 days is correct. We drive through the night. My husband drives during the day and I drive at night.

My estimate is about 1965 miles - and about 4 1/2 days. Depends on your driving speed/day length etc.

When are you going to do this? The closer you get to Fairbanks and the closer to June 22nd, the more daylight you'll have--if that's a concern to you.

Driving at night be very aware of deer, moose, caribou and other animals on, or crossing the road. Also, some sections of the Alaska Hwy are very rough and under ongoing construction, so be ready for some slow going and construction delays, and, you will miss some of the more scenic areas if you drive a lot through the night.
Going to Fairbanks via Top of the World Hwy, is much, much longer than staying on the Alaska Hwy

I usually do Banff to Anchorage in about 4 days (10 hr days). The math says 2 days if you keep it moving.
The trip is half of the fun if you slow down and enjoy.

I would go with dave's 4 days. Normally I figure 10 driving day from south Florida to Fairbanks. When we lived in Alaska, Nenana, my BIL and SIL and teen aged daughter would drive straight through from Anderson, Fairbanks area to Bellingham in about 48 hours. They did it several times, why I don't have a clue. It is not my style of travel but it worked for them. My BIL told me only one time did he have to wait for a gas station to open so he could get fuel.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice! We really appreciate it!
We are leaving tomorrow nite 6/7 from Chicago. We are expected to pickup my mom in Fairbanks on the 13th.
We do drive more then 10 hour days and take our liesure at places we like. We figure 2 days to get to the border in Sweet grass from here since we have gone all the way to Washington before in 3 days.
We will enjoy it!!!!! Thanks again!
