you have all made me feel better i can not believe some cg's won't let in pop ups or those under 30ft. that blows my mind!!! some of the best people i know have pop up's. nice, quiet, considerate campers who would give you their last cup of coffee if they thought you wanted it? so, my camper is too old and too short for a few cg's it seems.
my friends and i now have reservations at starve hollow state park.
that lake in the pines cg's can find someone else to fill their site!!

Oh good grief!! What a seriously silly restriction. Honestly, how many problems can they have with people "dumping and running?" Once a decade? They just want to look rich, rizty and cool. They are afraid they might have to rub elbows with the "wrong crowd." It really is just the silliest thing I have ever heard.
My trailer is 2 years old. I HOPE that I still own it and am still camping in it in 10 years. That would be great!
A friend of mine told me the other day that Warren Buffet (if not THE richest man in the U.S., then among the richest) lives in a regular house, on a regular street. The same house he has lived in for umpteen years. He doesn't live in a mansion, in some ritzy neighborhood. What a great example!

along with the growing popularity of RV'ing, and affluent buyers getting into RV'ing, DP's and big 5'ERS had been a large segment of that growth...
it isn't hard to understand that class A only or heavy restrictions would catch the eye of developers and and some CG owners, the market was there...
while it may be true, some of the nicest people have PUP's it is also true some of the nicest people travel in Prevost, Fleetwood's and Airstreams...
that hasn't changed all that much...

We have been on the road since April and have not been asked that question. We did stop in GA at a RV park and were given a site that was next to a junk yard. Never seen anyone there at the site but lots of old un-kept junk around the trailer. I can understand some owners trying to avoid that situation. Although I don't think the TT was old just dirty and rundown.

The rv park I'm at has the 10 year old rule but I often see rv's here older than that, I think it's because financially it would be silly to turn them away.

I know I have heard of this happening in rv parks, and places that rent monthly.

I wonder if this would be a good enough excuse to get a new TT next year (ours is a '99)!
I think it's a little crazy to put those kind of restrictions out there.

We have an 24 ft 85 Aljo 5th wheel that we bought last year after we sold our MH. We hand scrubbed it with clorox and D-10 cleaner, bought new molding around the edges so it is pretty and white, painted everything I could paint on the outside with oil based paint, new tires, new awning, new window stripping, new step covers. My husband even figured out how to make a wheel skirt covering from wood ( new one was 200.00) which I painted to match the other one. You have to really get up close to tell it is not the original. We also replaced a little paneling on the inside which looks almost identical to the rest.
Right now we have about $2,500.00 in it and alot of hard work.
Point is, I would LOVE to have a bigger, newer one and have looked at everything we could possibly afford. However, with gas prices either we can get a newer one or GO places in our old one which still looks decent and works.
With diesel nearly 5.00 a gallon campgrounds need to appreciate anyone that drives up to their gate!! Matterfact, we got reservations in 2 weeks at a private campround at the beach due to the fact so many people had canceled! They didn't ask our age camper!

Campgrounds sometimes have silly rules, but usually the rules are an attempt to address a potential problem or to correct some unwanted situation they have encountered. Most RV parks are hard side RVs only (Don't know what they would say if I showed up with my 10 ft Aliner Alite). Here in PA, alcoholic beverages are not permitted in State Parks and many have been asked to leave when caught sitting around the campfire with a beer - Go a couple of miles to a WV State Park and you can drink all the beer you want.
Some private CGs I've visited have been terrible from cleanliness to noise and appear to have no rules. I've been to RV parks that were very clean and quiet, felt dwarfed by giant motor-homes and never saw a person outside their RV. So the point is if you own a CG you can make the rules however - If you staying at a CG, you need to do a little research to see if its a place you want to be. A good place to get info on CGs is RV Parks Review.
