I like the fake fill and black tank maintom is talking about. Talk about a bad taste in your mouth when you try to start the siphon. In todays sue climate you may get sued for giving the thief a bug and a stinking outlook.

We have locking fuel fill doors on the MH and the fuel tank is over the front axle so very hard to access. If you have a SUV, or pick up they have brush guard type plates that can help deter a tank puncture. May also be a market for fuel tank shields for other vehicles along with the locking gas cap.

I'd rather have someone siphon a few gallons of diesel from my RV than have them punch a hole in the tank. On my toad, I tried to siphon gas from it for my Honda generator and there is no way to get a hose down the filler spout. Maybe if I graduated from Thiefs University I'd know how to do it.

Locking gas cap will keep the teens out and they will go on down the street to the next guy. If someone is stealing for a living, then nothing short of you sitting there will keep them out. I have mine in the driveway and keep a light outside on at night. Don't know how I would handle catching someone.

I feel if you need it more than I do, just ask me and I will see if I can help. I despise people stealing something that the owner has worked hard for. Just me.
No one respects much of anyone or anything anymore. Heck, stop and hold a door for a lady now and only about 25% of them will even acknowledge it. But, guess I will continue, just how I was raised.

Personally, with the cost of fuel, it's much wiser to not fill the tank, only maybe 25% or so, or enough to get to the nearest gas station when heading out.

Besides why feed/fuel the big oil companies by paying & storing their fuel ahead of time, their the big thieves!

Edouard the manufacturers recommend you keep your diesel tank full to cut down on condensation in the fuel tank so you are advising against a general recommendation.

We keep ours full also because we are in FL and may need the fuel to run the generator in case we are without power due to a storm. We could not get fuel or potable water within 40 plus miles after hurricane Charlie. Our MH not only provided a very comfortable place to live for the 11 days we did not have power it had potable water as the city was down and it saved the food in our freezer.

I worked for a company in the 70's that put those spring things in the filler neck. They did prevent siphoning, but they also made it almost impossible to fill up your tank. The splasback would keep shutting off the automatic nozzles.

How about a dummy fuel filler that leads to the black tank? -- let them siphon on that for a while! Or, maybe even better, it could lead to a tank full of something that appears to be fuel but will fry their motor when they use it.

LOL :-P

Good one! I have heard the same thing about theft these days, they go right for the line or tank.

We could go into the social aspect of theft but then that would not stay with the OP question and it would take a separate forum title to do it.

As far as the locking fuel cap as stated above if someone wants somethin bad enough they will get it. For those that would use some other means of taking care of business. It's not worth the criminal or civil expense you will have. I think Texas is the only state that will allow you to shoot someone for felony theft.

Post a small label on the rig near the filler cap and on the outside of the tank in multiple languages that says "Cooking oil conversion do not fill with gasoline".
