You can grandfather old fireplace, but new wood burning fireplaces are not allowed.

You don't want to tell that to building inspector, do you?

I'm currently in Texas traveling from Seattle, actually Auburn which is about 25 miles south of Seattle, to Virginia and back.

The Western half of Washington State, and especially Seattle, has bought into the man made global warming hysteria.

As a retired engineer I believe in global warming because I have looked at temperature data and the Earth's temperature, if the Earth follows past trends, must increase. Over the past two billion years average temperatures have fluctuated between 12 degrees C and 22 degrees C. There was one time where the high temperatures exceeded 22 degrees C but there appears to be a natural thermostat that limits the high and low temperatures.

Man wasn't here for most of that time and man has had nothing to do with either global warming or cooling. It's a natural cycle.

The current average temperature is approximately 15 degrees C moving up from 12 degrees C low. Logic would predict we are on our way to 22 degrees C because that is what has happened in the past, over and over again.

I very much doubt if we are currently smart enough to do such things as prevent the sun from warming up slightly or preventing the earth orbit from changing slightly either of which can contribute to warming.

There is a small problem with CO2 causing global warming because data has shown that there is a 600 to 800 year lag time between the Earth warming up and CO2 rising. From data it appears that rising CO2 is a result of global warming and not the cause.

Well Yellowboat, if you are right, then all the more reason we should not panic and make imprudent hasty decisions that significantly alter our lives, until we are very sure of the scientific reasons and ways in which the earth is warming, and what, if anything, we can do to significantly change it. More importantly, we should seriously consider the unforseen ramifications of any actions we take to improvidently remedy it. The ethanol/food crisis debacle is a good case in point.

The earth has been around a very long time before man evolved - and it most certainly went through some wrenching monumental climate changes, for which man made no contribution.

Again, it isn't simply "ignorant, radical tree-hugger/global warming/humans are unnatural. Kalifornia has some smog problems and the mountains create air circulation problems, so there are towns where fireplace exhaust has caused air-quality problems.

What a bunch of I#io#s. Like a few hundred or so campfires are going to make a change when they have thousands of acres of forest fires cooking every year. Why don't they spend some of our tax dollars to good use and figure out how to cap off a Volcano.
AMEN! They should come to Deschutes county Oregon.... The forest services worry about forest fires, so they thin out trees and bushes for XX amount of feet back from the roads and houses and burn HUGE bonfires of wood EVERY year...most of the summer! I guess Seattle bonfires cause more "global warming" than Oregon bonfires!!

After reading the artical I think I understand the Parks Dept. thinking very clearly.

"""Under the proposal, the department in July would reduce the number of fire rings at Alki from six currently to three and at Golden Gardens from 12 to seven.

Then later this year, the department would consider banning bonfires or requiring fees and permits to reduce the number of bonfires next year."""

So if you BUY a permit there will be no global warming from 'your' fire.

The United States is the only country concerned with carbon emissions.

China is bringing 27 coal-fired power plants on-line in one year's time. That's one new coal burning plant every two weeks.

I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

Put a wood burning stove in the MCI, and run an airshaft into new house.

The point is that the day may come when CG "campfires" will be banned too. What starts on the West Coast somehow slowly finds its way across the country and before the rest of us know it, what had been traditional and acceptable is suddenly forbidden.
I'm sorry to report that it has already started... King County, in which Seattle is located, banned campfires a couple of years ago. Typically, fines start at $2,000 with a max fine of $13,000. There is also a $300 fine for campground owners if they fail to report a camper. Exceptions are given to State and Federal Campgrounds. Just say thanks to the "Greenies"
