I noticed that after unloading my Lance 1010 camper that I had a white residue on the inside edge of both of my tail lights. Upon closer examination I found that the len's on both tail lights was cracked from the camper pressing on them. Has any one else had this problem? If so what have you done to keep the camper from comming forward. It seems like it comes froward, when loaded by maybe one inch.

When it comes forward what does it hit? Can you post an image? Try putting a spacer at the front so the camper sitsback a bit further when loaded and can't move forward. Try a 1x1 just in the bed at first until you determin the distance to stop issue, then do a permanant install...use plastic from the local plastic fab guy form his reminant bins...lots of cool stuff can be done with rot free plastic. Ask which is durable, impact resistant and flexible...I use SEABOARD for lots of items. Good LUCK! Capt PJ

BTW when you go to replace these STT lights go to LED type, much brighter in the sun light...folks will see your intentions much better. PPL RV always has good prices in LED replacements. Capt PJ

My Lance 981 will just rub the taillights if it is slightly off to one side, but the Bracket on the front which came with the Lance and bolts to front of truck box stops it from coming further. If you don't have this, a piece of lumber , maybe a 2x4( you will need to measure) placed in front of the bed will stop the camper from coming forward. A rubber facing on this is even better.

Thanks the reply, I had no problem on my F250 but this problem occured after a 10,000 mile trip on my F350. I will have to acmit I went through al lot of rough offroad adventures on my trip west and even dug tge dually in up to it's hubs on the right side with a cliff on the drivers side where I could not dismount the cab (gulp). *(I am glad for the granny gear). Probably all of the offroad twisting and bumps caused it. I have a reinforced rear bumper to hold the tiedowns and then the centering bar and bumpers in the front of the bed that also is for the front tiedowns. They are Happy Jack tie downs.
When losding the camper, I back until I feel the back touch, then lower the back jscks about 3 inches then lower all jacks at the same rate untill the back jacks are off the ground, then finish by lowering the front jacks into place. The front bumpers keep the camper centered and the bumpers have pads that act as front movement bumpers. In order to put plastic I would have to glue a spacer on the back of the truck which would interfere with the tailgate when it is installed after a trips. So the only way I could do that would be to install a plastic strip on the underside of the camper. I would need something soft that would not rub the paint off of the truck. I might be able to take the front mounting bar off and put spacers under the 8 bolts to move tha bar rearward, but there are also 2 holes and bolts in the bed that sould have to be redrilled.

I have the same truck with a Lance 1191.Two weeks after picking up the camper went back to dealer to have backup camara installed, the service guy told me he needed to install 1/4 shim on the bar mounted in the truck bed to prevent the camper from hitting the tail lights. I drive on the beach alot and get bouncing sometimes, hasn"t hit yet.

That 1/4 shim sounds like just what I need, was it supplied by Lance or should I just make my own? (Probably easier!)

I just glued a piece cut from an old rubber mat (1/4 in. thick) over the Happjac bumpers in the truck bed and I put a three inch strip of foam tape along the edge of each taillight lense to protect them from rubbing. 40,000 miles and no cracked lights.

I have a 2x4 accross the front bed wall to space my slide-on utility body back off the bed wall. Could also be used to stop a camper from going forward, I presume. The camper I had for my truck was an 8 footer and didn't have a rear overhang or panel covering the truck tail lights, so never had to deal with tail light problems on that one.
