Wanted to let all the Topsail fans know of some updated information we were told by a Park Ranger last week while camping.
Topsail had planned on building a new olympic size pool during all of their renovations but have now decided they are going to completely do away with having a pool at all at some point in the future; they did not know exactly when they would be demolishing their old pool though.
Maybe if enough campers complain to them they will change their minds back again to building a new pool to enjoy!

I talked to Leda this morning and asked about the construction. According to her, the construction will include the changes to the entrance / exit, a playground, tent sites, and the tram road to the lake, as well as the addition of 16 more cabins. She said that there would be no pool changes (adding a new one, or removing the old one), and was just as shocked as I was at this information.
She seemed to feel that the information may have been misinterpreted. I am going to call around a little and see what I can find out.

One of the main reasons we like Topsail is the access to the ocean. The pool is not an issue for us.
I do know there are a few folks who prefer pools but the Panhandle of Florida has some of the nicest ocean beaches in the world, why not enjoy them?

I would think that Leda has the inside story on what is going on and would trust her to shoot straight. It would be hard for me to believe they would completely do away with the pool as it is enjoyed by young and old alike. With the addition of more cabins and tent sites it would appear that a bigger pool would be in order, but certainly would rather have the small pool that is there now vs no pool at all.
Just over two weeks until we head out for Topsail. I can hardly wait.

We talked to the rangers about the pool issue and his comment was they were a beach campground. But that they were not going to increase the size but leave the old one there. Mainly for use by young children. They are also looking into WIFI maybe not for the whole park but a hot spot. Also they are going to get the other lake on Topsail so U can rent paddle boats and canoes there. Who knows how many times this will change. It is the State Govt.???

Yes, it's the state government, and I will wager that all of those construction projects and other plans will be put on hold. No money in the budget, and unlike the feds, Florida must balance its budget every year by constitutional edict.
That and the slowdown in RV traffic due to the high cost of fuel is hurting state and private campgrounds in Florida alike.

IMO they spend way too much money on Topsail anyway. Florida has 160 state parks and I would like to see some of that money make it to those, for much needed maintenance instead of millions poured into Topsail every year.

There are plenty of other parks that rival that kind of attendance that could use some simple upgrades that may make them better than Topsail. TH has become too much RV resort and not enough state park CG IMO. There are actually much better beaches than the one at Topsail.
