Just a note to let all Seneca owners know about a limp mode that I know I was not aware of. On our recent trip the check engine light and low coolant light came on and when it started blinking the entire system shut down, engine and all. I checked the coolant level and it was just above the low mark, so it did not make sense to me. Anyway I managed to limp to a Wal-Mart with about 5 complete stalls. I added coolant to the full mark and that fixed the problem. Seems to me this is a real safety issue with the unit stalling in the middle of the road and all safety features to include power steering goes out.
Anyway just a word of caution to the Seneca owners out there.

Have you used a OBDII scan tool to read the code when the "Check Engine" light came on? When the Check engine light comes on it will store a code that will stay there until you clear it with a scan tool or disconnect the battery for a while. If you have not read the code, I would suggest that you use a OBDII scan tool and read it. There could be another problem other than the Low Coolant that put it into Limp mode. Just a thought.

Good note on filling coolant tank.
All Kodiak owner's should keep a close eye on coolant level.
If your coolant was low when engine was hot. How low was it when cold?
I have seen on another forum that there have been many coolant level sensor failures. If my memory is correct. It requires replacing complete tank.

I have a ScanGauge and take a look for the error codes periodically while driving. Have yet to see any but I'd think it would be useful in this instance.

When we had a Winnebago View 06 with a Mercedes engine, they were famous for jumping into limp mode, usually right on the interstate, except you would have your accelerator to the floor and the coach would not do more than 20 mph. They had problems with a bad turbo resonator, a $20.00 part. They also had bad codes from their EGR valves, which they would replace, about a $300 part.
The discussion back then was blaming the limp modes on the EGR situation, which was a requirement the Feds put on. Has to do with Exhaust regulation of some sort.
What the other posters mentioned about scan guages and codes is relevant- Also, have Chevrolet do a scan when you take it in for oil changes -
Limp home is something that I think all diesel owners aren't really told about, but it is a feature of most engines.... a safety measure, which as you mentioned doesn't make you feel real safe when all of a sudden, with no warning, you are doing 20 in the fast lane of an interstate.

I was doing some maintenance work on my Kodiak this morning. Look at the coolant reservoir. Mine is at the high point for cold. When hot the level raises. Sensor is in lower right corner of picture I posted below.

Dane: You may want to check the level again to make sure that everything is OK.
