You can buy 'vent sheets' for this specific use. They look like Bounce sheets (soemtimes I have even used Bounce sheets.

You put them under the vent and remove before your next heating season.

I will look for some replacement vents that I can close, hopefully, made out of metal. The ones that came with the TT are plastic. I did not realize that they were a standard size item.

Do you take your shoes off at the door? We do and it confines the dirt there instead of tracking it all over the RV.
If you get closable (sp?) vents keep them open when using the furnace. I think it's OK to close one of them partway.

Alot of people don't take their shoes off inside. I clean up the TT each morning when the diesels start roaring at 6am
