I don't live in a tornado area (thankfully) but this isn't the first time I read that Wal-Mart takes people in or provides comforts during these storms. Good for them, they have always treated us camper's well (around here they do).

Glad you were ok and I assume everything with your camper was ok too.

I heard they were playing The Wizard of Oz on all the TVs and had a game of twister for the kids(;

Glad to hear everything turned out well for your family!

Thankfully we didn't have our pets with us so we didn't have to worry about them. Wal-mart would not have taken them in, however we could have left them in the car. We were afraid to take the time to hook up and pull the camper out so we left it.

Thankfully we didn't have the wind hit us down in the site we were at. The site was a little lower than the others and with the big rigs all in front of us we think that helped to block a lot of the wind. No branches fell other than small ones so we were ok there too.

Yes, Wal-Mart totally came to the rescue. They had the manager at the front door directing anyone that came in to the back of the store.

What was strange is that the sirens went off, then a voice came on saying it was a tornado warning and to seek shelter immediately. We had never heard that before so that's what woke us up. We usually sleep through them at our home also, but it's kind of hard to sleep with a huge booming voice telling you to seek shelter. Thankfully the shape of the lake broke the storm up so it didn't get too severe other than the rain, lightening and thunder.

Glad your family is safe. I read something frightening, that a large percentage of people killed in tornadoes are killed in their cars, often trying to escape to safer ground.

Believe me, hearing a loud booming voice after midnight kind of freaked us all out too! Needless to say, we obeyed what the voice was telling us!!
