Truck Trader. It doesn't cost all that much, usually less than the newspaper, and gets alot more exposure. This is the most direct route to selling a vehicle, you're reaching all serious potential buyers of used vehicles in your area. Vehicles I have put in the Auto/Truck Trader usually sell on the first ad run. Basic ad with picture is usually about $35 for 2 weeks and well worth it.
If you go Ebay, you risk being a victim of every scam out there.
Leaving it parked in a safe spot near a busy street with sign on it has worked for me too.

Sold my Tent Trailer real quick on Craigslist last year. Got a good cash price for it too. Consignment lots were offering me peanuts for leaving our tent trailer with them.
Craigslist is also free on the internet. You can specify what localities you want your ad to run. It expires in 7 days, and you can renew the ad easily without having to resubmitt a rewritten ad.
I would however, not accept bank or certified checks when doing this. I want green backs only from my buyer when dealing with the unknown, public.
I've heard of some pretty sad stories of folks passing counterfeit bank checks.........Only green backs are acceptable for me.
Also in California your title to your vehicle has an area to fill out to release your liability on your sold vehicle. I fill that out and get it in the mail ASAP to the Sacramento, Ca. DMV, after selling a vehicle.
I also write up a bill of sale and have the buyer sign and put down his drivers license number where I see that license with my own eyes.
I do the same for the buyer, giving him/her my D.L. number plus signature.

I'm not sure if you're selling in reaction to the high fuel prices. In any case, I was just listening to an automotive economist address the exact topic of trying to unload a gas guzzling truck... Now is the absolute worst time to do it. Even if fuel stays at this crazy level at some point the initial shock will fade away.
With the whole supply and demand thing you will take a total bath selling a big truck. Even waiting 6 months or a year would help if it's possible.
Fuel is crazy right now and, regardless of what happens longterm, it will likely level off or recede a bit at some point. Everybody's just scared right now and not exactly looking to buy big trucks.

I sold my 2003 6.0 PSD Excursion in one day for $24,500 last fall on craigs list. But if you want to sell a diesel vehicle today you will only get about 1/2 what they were selling for last fall.

Obviously (IMHO anyway) Craigslist is best because it's free. I know plenty of folks who have bought and sold on there with no problems. But it probably depends are your area.
