Taken from just outside our tent on Portsmouth Island (Cape Lookout National Seashore - NC Outer Banks)
PI is a great destination for those who enjoy rustic camping. There are no services of any type on the island, just twenty plus miles of unspoiled beach where you can set up most anywhere. Camping is free but there is a $14/person round trip charge for the ferry service. It was fairly crowded over Memorial Day and our nearest neighbor was still a half mile or so away.

AWESOME! I love OBX- I hope one day to make it to that very spot- have only stayed in the beach houses near Duck, with my inlaws entire family (huge house on the beach, with private walk to the beach). I am in love with that area!
