Hey gang, I was wondering if Pirate Land has paved roads and sites? I have heard that MB Travel Park does not. Is this correct? I haven't been to MB in 13 years and have never camped there. How early do most places take reservations for big weekends like Memorial Day and Labor Day? Which one of these 2 weekends do you all prefer at Myrtle??

Pirateland has paved roads thru most of the park if I'm not mistaken. The sites are not paved however but each one has a little shed with picnic table. If you want a weekend trip you need to book at least 3-4 months in advance and preferably 6 months. I called Ocean Lakes last week and they are booked solid thru Labor Day already so we were able to snag an oceanfront section site at Lakewood.

I like Piratelands reservation staff, they accommodated us when Ocean Lakes wouldn't even answer the phone, but then answered my Email with sorry nothing available. I asked the guy at Pirateland to see what he could put together for me within a 2 week period, it took him a little digging, but he came up with 5days in a row for me, I like when folks take the time to help, even better when they take your calls.

Just FYI Memorial weekend at Myrtle beach host Black Bikers week so expect alot of bikes & crowd....the weekend before that is another bikers week full of Harley's. Never been during either week but sure hear about them on the news, gets wild & some bikers don't make it back home.

Make reservations early. If you want the 4th. Make them now for 2010, at OL. Labor day ia a little easier to get into. Call now.
As for paved roads. All have them except MBTP, and Apache. You will find the parks WITHOUT paved roads to be much cooler in the summer, especially at night. You will also notice sand roads are not messy. Personally I like when the road is sand.
You will also find that Ocean Lakes is all pull thru, and will put in a specified Campsite. While the others just put you in the area. Also OL sites are smaller than the rest. Except Apache. LW has large sites.
All MBCGs are nice, and usually full. Really can't go wrong with any of them.

Not all campsites at Pirateland have the shelters, but the ones that don't do have a paved site, which we prefer at the beach to cut down on the amount of sand tracked in! We have CampClub USA and only camp there when we can get half price rates to visit family in the area. The other times we camp at either Lakewood or Ocean Lakes.

Thats kinda what I'm looking for. Paved roads and pads to cut down on tracking in so much sand. I like to be able to spray the pad off with the hose. Thanks for all the advice.

As I remember it, PL has all paved roads but sites are sand/grass only.
I also believe that there is a restriction on rug size for outside on the ground at your camper.
