SSDD. This forum is so predictable.
The OP guy asks whether the V10 is a capable towing machine. Many of us respond yes. Then we get this. Absolute SSDD.
How many people on this forum actually tow often and long enough to worry about Overhauling? It seems to me that ninety-nine percent of the towers on this forum have never overhauled their vehicles. Most of these vehicles are newer.
Then we get skeetshooter25 who adds to his signature proudly that he is running his Dodge diesel with OPEN EXHAUSTS. Boy I am impressed. I also have absolutely zero desire to listen to you pulling in or out of any campground I am a part of. Threads exist on this forum about how mad people get with loud generators, but we have to listen to open exhausts in a campground. I feel about the same way about that issue as I do about idiots and their open exhaust Harleys. When I want to hear racket, I go to a NASCAR race.
Many of us purchase a vehicle after doing plenty of research. We purchase a vehicle that will tow our trailer comfortably and safely. We look into longevity, mpg, initial purchase price, etc. We don't need to impress the camper next to us.

I came from a 2004 dodge ram diesel and now have a 2001 v-10 and I'm very pleased with how it pulls even with the 3:73 gears,When pulling with a v-10 gasser you just need to know how to use it's power band and pulling hills in overdrive is not gonna work.

Around here if you put on 30,000 miles per year, you'll replace the V10 and any brand diesel at about the same time. Not because of engine longevity. But because the damned thing will rust out, before the engine needs replacing.

True, but when you consider that V10s are easily good for well over 200,000 miles of use (300,000+ in many cases) before an overhaul...the longevity of service thing really does not matter. The truck will long since have been traded away or sold before its time for that overhaul, diesel OR V10.
The service life point was valid with the older Cummins diesels, and the older 7.3 PSD diesel, but it does NOT hold water anymore with the newer diesels, anyway.
Do you REALLY think the newer, extremely high-tech diesels with all their emission controls, turbochargers, etc. are going to last that much longer than a V10 before major work is needed? If you do, I got a bridge to sell you.
Anyway, like already said, with diesel fuel costing so much more than gas, and the diesel option costing soooo much more $$ up front on trucks...Most of the advantage diesels used to have, is gone. I'm amazed Ford isn't selling a lot more V10 powered trucks than they are. Its the only real option left, if you need a serious gasser tow vehicle.
Definitely try and find one with 4.10s or 4.30 gearing, the V10 works much better with those gears. Althoug, ours (see signature) indeed has 3.73s, and it tows our 34', 8200 lb (loaded) trailer just fine.

Check the vehicle in my signature. It tows great. Lots of torque 457 lbs@3250 rpms. When I step on the gas, my 9000 lb trailers moves right out...and I am not mashing the gas pedal either.
