While we were camping last week, we were outside having coffee and watching a neighbor down the hill from us packing up and getting ready to head out. They had a good fire going early in the morning and it still had a small flame when they pulled out. I just don't understand why they didn't pull their hose over and run water on it. Thank goodness we were in a State Park...the camp host had to bring their hose to extinguish it. Couldn't believe what I was seeing. Some people just don't think...

Why should I do it when someone else will? That's the thinking of many people. Sad

Just like with so many other things as well. Me? I'm just the opposite, if I can't finish it myself, I just don't start it. I try to apply this to most everything I do. But sometimes I need some help, so I ask for it. That's why I'm here on the forums. Heck, I'll even ask someone for directions if I'm lost. Just ask my wife...

We see it all the time. On a recent trip, we watched a guy stack wood on top of his fire ring, which was already lit, then him and his family left for a few hours. I felt like mentioning that if he had wood to spare, he could ship it my way instead of risking a fire.

It surprises me because these people were locals and everyone who lives in this state knows how tinder dry our forests are and we are in the height of fire season, thats why. It actually infuriates me to see this especially with all the devastating fires our western and southwestern states have endured.

it is also a contributing factor to all the no burn bans... I don't know why some people (the few) don't feel the need to be responsible for their own actions...
why do some leave their garbage behind when they usually can drive right past the dumpster on the way out...
I guess we are lucky there isn't more of this, but we sure shouldn't have to depend on luck for such trivial task...

I personally go with whatever the local campground policy is. I have been to some of each that say let it burn out and some that say to completely extinguish it. Most of the ones I go to say to let it burn out naturally, but I normally only have coals left when I leave. This is just good planning of putting the wood in.

Perhaps it's me but I'm no longer surprised by the thoughtlessness of others. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that based on my experiences I've seen locals treat their parks like they were their own private dump. The must figure that their taxes will cover it.
