Having camped for 10 yrs...i have never started a fire the day we were leaving out...however....I can see somebody thinking that they dont want to hose out the fire because then the pit is soaked for the next person who comes along making it difficult to burn in...

It could be worse. I have seen campers start a campfire just so they can burn their trash before heading out. Nothing like the smell of burning plastic bottles at breakfast time.

I wondering if the camp host had the tag number for those campers (and I use the word loosely). It should have been reported to someone....leaving an open campfire is the same as arson, as far as I'm concerned. At the very least, they should have been fined!

Especially, when it would have only taken a couple of minutes to completely dowse the fire, and even lighten their load for the trip home (using their water!)

As a Scout Leader, we always taught that the fire has to be out, and the ground cool......amazing how many fires continue because of burning roots that were "cooking" under the fire. Just covering it with sand/dirt may not be enough!!

Amazing. People just don't think.
Is used to be called "common sense". Maybe it's "un-common sense" nowadays.
We've had so many bad fires the last few years. No wonder I see more and more campfire bans.

I'm suprised they were allowed to have a fire at all in NV and UT we are under fire restrictions from May until Oct. I'm suprised you are not in AZ. All we can use in NV and AZ is colmen type cook stoves outside. You are not allowed to smoke outside and definantly no fires.

Some people just don't care, some one else will clean up after them.

Perhaps a fine would give this type of irresponsible behavior food for thought. I have seen some go to bed with the fire still burning strong. I guess if their rv burned down it would be someone else's fault.

All that is necessary for "evil" to reign is for good men (and women) to do nothing.

Notice more and more campgrounds are NOT allowing campfires???

We stayed in S.E. Texas last winter and NO fires.
Have reservations by Boise, Idaho and NO campfires.
Bummer, campfires are a big part of the camping experience for me.

Oh well I still have my Bud Lite each evening...
