Heads up ... ALL June sailings between Duke Point (Nanaimo) and Tsawwassen (Lower Mainland/Vancouver) are being offered at reduced cost. If you're overlength and overheight, the savings add up quick -- $50 or more!

As well, all Saturdays in June, the Tsawwaseen-Swartz Bay sailings are at reduced cost.

So, come on over!

Make ferry reservations or you may have a long wait

Generally, the Duke Point run is a lot quieter than the Swartz Bay run. Which is why it's on sale. And also why the Saturdays out of Swartz are on sale.

I think they're hoping to encourage more people to take the Duke Point run, which is not running anywhere near capacity. They also hope to encourage more people to not travel the Swartz Bay run on Fridays or Sundays, which are impossibly busy during the summer, with commuters and sightseers.

We're departing the Island via Duke Point ourselves, next Thursday on our way to the Yukon. Have never taken that ferry before so looking forward to it, with the bonus of saving enough on the ferry cost to buy half a tank of diesel in Hope.

Dang DH won't let me use the Internet while we vacation, so will have to post pics of our travels end of July, after our return.

Stay tuned!

So how much would a family of 4 in a passenger car have to pay for the ferry to go from Vancouver to Victoria.Looks like $45 for the car and $13.50 for each person in the car,I cant believe its that expensive..

Yeah, and if you want to bring your rig over with you, watch that price skyrocket!

Vancouver Island is gorgeous, but until they build a bridge (which is most likely not in my lifetime), it's just not worth the expense to go over very often. We used to go all the time because we had family there, but they moved back to the mainland and we save hundreds of dollars every year thanks to their move!

And if you think you'll kinda SAVE some money this summer by going to the island and not have to drive, it may be good to note that BC Ferries will be increasing fuel surcharges:

Do you advise reservations throughout the summer or is it just weekends that are really busy?

We'll miss these savings as we don't plan to catch the ferry until mid July.
