Need advice with the DTV converters. In my MH I have a Winegard VS5312 video switch with front TV, bedromm TV. None of the TV's are digital. How do I wire up the converters using the video switch?
I have another question regarding DTV. All the news on the tv,newspaper, and etc. all say that cable will not be affected with the Feb 09 change. But I talked with a cable tech and he said that our local cable co. will run analog and digital for about 9 mos after Feb and then just digital. At that time I would need a box which could be one of their boxes at $3.00/mth. If this is true why is all the news only about antenna users?
Any comments on this subject! Thanks

You can put one converter on the lead from the antenna to the box. That will allow you to watch only the same channel on all TV outs on the switch box at the same time. If you want to watch different shows on each at the same time, you need a converter feeding each TV and VCR, no converter on the antenna lead.
Most cable companies are going to feed analog signals. If your cable goes all digital, you'll need their box.

Delivery of cable TV either in analog or digital is a different animal has nothing to do with over the air broadcasting. Signals are modulated differently. In addition to their normal cable analog and digital signals, some cable TV providers do send over the air digital broadcast feeds out on their cable, this is called QAM. Some digital TV's can decode the QAM programs, no OTA antenna is needed for these sets.
Cable providers are bound by their local city/township service agreements as to when they can if ever discontinue analog cable services.
Someone else here posted his hook up. If you have a open AUX input and want to use just one converter you get a SATELLITE type splitter/Diplexer (Go to www.radioshack.com and search on diplexer or follow link below)
Unhook the roof-top antenna cable from the Winegard VS5312, hook it to the COMMON terminal on the Diplexer. the power pass through is then hooked to the Winegard VS5312 on the ANT port. The output of the converter goes to the AUX-Input port. Job done
If you want a different converter for a 2nd TV, put it in the VCR loop, either before the VCR (So the vcr can record it) or after, or in place of the VCR
OR..
You can just do an in-line install
I wrote out this one.. IF your converter has digital pass through try a simple inline install in the line to the television itself.. I am told the pass through units have a lot of "insertion loss" however
What I did here at home (And will do in coach) is split the ANT signal, one side of the splitter feeds the tv normally. the other side feeds the converter, and I used the A/V lines (Red-White-Yellow) to feed the matching input on the TV
Alternative to that is to feed one side of the splitter to one side of a A/B switch (The "A" side, A for "Antenna") the other side feeds the converter which feeds the "B" (B as in Binary, Digital is Binary) and the Common terminal on the switch feeds the TV. This switch can be manual or electronic remote controlled.

Just this last weekend went camping where could reach over the air tv signals and installed a Magnavox converter with pass thru that I bought at sears(with coupon). Have the winegard entertainment distribution box so removed the VCR which we never used and hooked up the in-from-antenna and out-to-tv to the converter, and selected TV antenna in that VCR section. NOW on the main and 2nd TV sections select VCR input and turn on the booster. Worked like a charm, could not believe the difference went from fuzzy to better picture than we get on satellite. Richard
PS If you hook converter this way do not need the pass thru feature as you can select TV antenna in the TV section of the distribution box to still watch analog.
