My dad has a subscription to Dish Networks at his house, but owns two of their satellite dishes (and one receiver).
Maybe a few times a year, it'd be nice to have satellite TV in our trailer.
Could I have him add a second receiver onto his account, and use it (and his extra dish) in our RV? Approximately what would that cost?
Thanks for the help.
In other words, as most reply postings show, do not ask for help here unless you are willing to step onto the gallows....
I would say it is more like one of my bosses bosses said once at an open all hands meeting, "don't ask a question unless you are ready to accept the answer".

You mean the opinion of others. We can speculate on what Dish Network would say, but without calling them we don't know the true answer.

if iam paying the bill i can do what i want to. dish should have no say
I believe that the receiver is location specific, but Dish allows the subscriber to put it in a RV. it is not viewer specific. don't think it matters really who is watching it at your address. now that is assuming that you aren't operating it at a bar and have NFL channel football on it.

I got another receiver from my daughter when she changed to Direct TV. Dishnetwork did not want this receiver back. I just used it on a RV trip to Texas and was told the charge would only be $5.00. No insulation free and no fee to disconnect, but when I got home the charge was $24.00 more. I plan to call and find out why.

NOTE: this is what the first line in f) says: "For optimal performance of your Receiving Equipment, including ordering with your remote control or receiving certain Services, ..." THAT is the only reason to HAVE to have telephone lines and why you can't use the sat and receiver (without telephone lines) while RVing...........
Anyway -- that's the interpretation I get from reading what you quoted.
Your interpretation is, to put it bluntly, wrong. The line you quote explains why you don't need a phone line to watch Direct TV programming on a single TV if you're willing to do without some of the additional services-- but the rest of the paragraph explains why phone lines are (supposedly) required to mirror programming on multiple receivers, which is the real subject at hand.
Bottom line is, if you only own one receiver, a phone line is recomended, but not required. But, if you have more than one receiver you're supposed to do one of two things:
1. Pay for a separate subscription for every receiver
2. Keep all receivers plugged into a land-based phone line, in which case they will "mirror" service on those receivers, eliminating the need to purchase an additional subscription
What we do, as RV'ers (ie, use multiple receivers in separate locations on a single account), does not comply with either of the above-- so we are all in violation of the Customer Agreement. Those that believe otherwise are deluding themselves-- technically, what we are doing is no more "legit" than what the original poster wants to do-- the rules don't have an exception for RV'ers, any more than they do for a father and son sharing an account. Most of us rationalize that it's different because it's the same people watch the programming regardless of the location, but rationalization is all it is-- technically, we're still in violation.
BTW, I notice you skipped right over the paragraph that specifically states that mobile units aren't eligible for mirrored services:
(g) Mobile Units. We provide Service to Receiving Equipment installed in mobile units such as campers, boats and other recreational vehicles. However, this Receiving Equipment is not eligible for the additional TV authorization discount described in 1(f).
-- what could be more clear than that?
PLEASE NOTE: I've been violating these rules for the last 13 years, will continue to do so, and have no expectation that the satellite police are going to be visiting me or anybody else. But perpetuating the myth that what we're doing is "perfectly legit" does other RVer's a disservice-- when they call the satellite company and talk to a CSR that plays by the rules, they're told that they need to purchase a separate account for the RV-- and now they're really confused. Better for all to understand that the official policy is one thing, but the practicality is quite another.

Well I called Dishnetwork and found out why the extra charges. Because the RV is not hookedup to a phone line. The charges are for programming. I was not told this. I have removed the extra receiver and don't plan to use it again. I could use the receiver here at the house but it a 322 receiver and requires two inputs. I did try it once with a spliter and it would only get a couple channels. (failed a bunch of test) I am thinking about going to Direct TV.

Tom
did you use a SW-21 to connect the two leads?
bumpy
Bumpy, I had to go out to the Rv to see what I used. It is a seperator 123254 with one input to the seperator and two outputs to the receiver. I was told the switch was in the dish. I really hate paying for service at home when I not home and cannot use it.
