Just got back from a "scamping" trip as a matter of fact! We went to an RV park in Wasilla and used it as a home base while we went shopping and *gasp* looked at other RV parks! Just checking out the neighbors so that when we come back and our park is full (or closed) we will have a second option.
We also checked out what turned out to be a really nice state campground!

well, until we get to the outdoors, we use whatever and wherever is available. once we usually hit colorado and utah, its down and dirty time. but i digress, last year me and the wife did the appalachian trail with backpacks, tent and a lot of walking. a lot. to me tha is camping. anytime you use a motorhome, it's less of camping then personalized motor hotels. Not that i have anything against it. we full time now and wouldn't think of chosing the tent over the rv any day of the week. although, next week we do plan on tent camping while we are doing battueax on the james river, since we will be kayaking from lynchburg to richmond. we won't even tent, we will use our eno's (hammocks) that are zero impact for our tent.
once we hit the national forest campgrounds in gunnison counrty this year, it's all camping (well, as far as you can camp in an rv)

Scamping: Parking your RV on an RV parking lot to have somewhere to sleep while you scamper around the surrounding area checking out the sights and attractions.
Up to this point, we have only gone camping in state parks here in WV. Now that my daughter has graduated HS, and my wife and I have traded the popup for a small 5th wheel, we will still camp, but may do a little more scamping as we travel outward and onward.
How about you?
We "Scamp" when on the way to a destination, then "Camp" there. Bought a self contained rig so we don't NEED to be hooked up every night. Save money on the way to where we're going so we have more to spend while there.

We do both. Some weekends we like to set, then walk, talk, read, "camp". Other times we like to set our mobile vacation cottage and scamper around looking at the sights and attractions. Sometimes we use the TT as a rolling hotel while we work on our out of town rental units.
Both. Now more so 'camping' (really boon-docking) since both or our kids have moved out.
When the kids were home we took longer camping trips..(see photos of our camping in my signature), however reading your definition..really were more like 'scamping', since we used our PUP as our 'hotel-home base' while touring the areas we were visiting. We always would choose a CG that had nice trees, pool, game room and hookups when on our trips. We had also camped in Nat'l. Parks also. But rarely at 'parking-lot' style CG. YUCK!
Our trips have mostly been 1-2 weeks in length with several 3 weekers when the kids were home. Now the DH and I go more often on weekenders (boon-docking) and 1 week camping trips.
We're scampers for sure. That's why I bought my Rialta. We can have the comforts of home with us whether we're parked at the campground or out touring the countryside. Of course these gas prices have put a damper on the scamper, but we get a little in.

Glad to hear there are others who don't camp but scamp. I hate camping-never could see a point to eating outside when I had a perfectly good table inside. Don't mind picnic table eating but my pleasure way will be for sleeping and eating and traveling. G.
