I was talking to a friend today, to find out where she was "camping" because of storms going through our area. She has a "seasonal" site that she has actually bought and paid for and pays property taxes on. She owns the lot that her "camper" is located on.
When I said that I knew she was "camping" this weekend, I was quickly put in my place! She was NOT camping, she was at her vacation home! She was not in a campground she was at a resort.
What a freaking hoot! She's in a 30 foot camper parked on a lot in a campground, but she's at her vacation home and under no uncertain terms was she "camping!! I mean, really, how low can you go?
According to her, "camping" meant that you hooked your "camper" to your vehicle and drove somewhere and parked and spent hours setting up, only to take it back down again a day or so later when it's time to leave and bring your camper back home.
She only has to pack her car with whatever they need for the weekend, because everything is already set up and ready to go, and because she doesn't "move" the "camper", err, I mean vacation home she's not actually camping!
OMG! I could hardly contain my laughter! It really must be rough to live in her world . . . Glad I'm not there!

She seems to be taking her "vacations" a bit too seriously. Maybe "camping" would help her chill on the 'tude.

Like us. We tow our vacation home to the beach resort. But we take our camper to the campground in the mountains.
I guess it all depends on what your definition of camping is. Staying in a RV Resort dosen't qualify as camping to us.
HUH? She is a campground that has both "campground" and "resort" in the name . . . She is also staying in a "camper" . . . it is NOT a "home" as it still has axles and wheels and can easily be moved . . . it's still a "camper" no matter how you look at it . . . The only difference is the high-fallutin attitude . . . Not surprising though, as the world does revolve around her . . . even though she barely has a pot or a window to throw it out of! LOL!
With all due respect, the non-camping friend is correct. We sure never called our fifth wheel a "camper". We are now in stix & brix and no longer fulltiming but we still do not insult our fulltimer friends by calling their home a camper.
Some here seem to think the person in her "vacation home" has an attitude and what some of us others may see is a bit of arrogance on the part of the stick house folks.

Well, ...I've now put about forty-thousand miles on this motorhome and I still have not "camped" or visited a "resort". We have done a lot of traveling, RV'ing, and sight-seeing. Regardless of what some of these places with electric, water, and sewer connections call themselves, I have yet to visit one I would consider a "resort".
So, Julie, I guess it is just everyone's perception of what the experience is.
I don't know... I think I can follow her logic.
People keep telling me I shouldn't call what we do in our 30' TT "camping." We go to state parks, hike, roast marshmallows, etc. However, I sleep on my nice full size mattress in an air conditioned room, bake cookies in the oven, take hot showers, and blow dry my hair afterwards.
I said, "Fine... I'm vacationing in my 'condo on wheels! Do you think that describes it better?"
Even when we go to visit Mom and park in her driveway, we are camping. No matter where we go or how long we stay, it is a campout. We bought the motorhome to enjoy camping and that's what we're gonna do.
