We're heading out there in a couple weeks for the first time and wondered what suggestions/advice and/or any other input on the campground and area there. I havent been to jasper in a really long time and wondered how this campground was if anyone could provide some reviews that would be awesome!!!

The campground is typical for a provincial/state park. The hookup sites are close together...non hookup sites are spacious and semi-private. We opted for a non-hookup site and enjoyed every minute of our 7 day stay in the park. Have fun.

Wabasso & Wapiti are also nice Campgrounds. Wabasso has the river that runs alone it & lots of trails for hiking & bikes(peddle). It is about 20 clicks from Jasper townsite & no serviced lots but has a dump station.

We stayed at Whistlers a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what jshul means by "hookup sites are close together." We had a full hookup site that was a pull through. It was along one of the interior roads and the pull through was a loop off of the road. The nexr site on our side of the road was 50-75 feet further on the road and the sites on the opposite were staggered. There were trees and the sites were about as spread out as you will ever find. There were a lot of elk that wandered through almost every day. I would give very high marks for Whistlers.

We also stayed at the Whistlers a few weeks ago for the weekend and it was a nice, quiet campground. We had a pull-thru all services site and I was very happy with it.
Close to Jasper, the tramway and other places to visit like Athabasca falls.

one thing to keep in mind, you can reserve online and get the "type" of site you like but not specify a specific one. If you go full service, there are no fire pits. Chose a power site and your good to go. I think a fire permit is around $6-$7/night. Great campground within hiking/biking distance of some wonderful scenery. I reccomend the tram, a hike or bike around the Jasper Park lodge, Athabasca falls and the Maligne canyon hike and if you have a portable bbq, you can picnic out on the island at Pyramid lake. Wonderful place.

We stay in William Switzer park north of Hinton and just drive to the park...I don't like the parks campgrounds...it's like staying in a walmart parking lot everyone rammed in there only half with firepits $40 a night to camp plus a $8.80 a night "fire permit" $50 a night to be stacked like cord wood??
For the exact same drive(4 hours) go down to kananaskis beautiful down and no crowds I recomend elkwood campground 25 yards of thick bush between the campstalls. We seen lots of animals bears, moose, elk, deer, big horned sheep, pine martins....thats was within walkin distance of our camper

We left Whistlers late last week and enjoyed it very much. There was plenty of room and it was easy to get in and out, as noted above.
We were surprised by the park fees of $8+ per day in addition to CG fees. I would say there would be no need for reservations. There were lots of empty spaces.

We left Whistlers this morning. We had a full hookup site and did not feel crowded at all. We did not spend a lot of time at the campground as we spent more time exploring the park. My one complaint would be the distance of our campsite from the showers. We saw a lot of elk including a mom and baby. We also had one wonder through our campsite. I would recommend Whisters. We also stayed one night at Tunnel Mountain in Banff and would highly recommend there as well.

Whistlers is an awesome campground. It is very centrally located (close to the townsite, the tramway up Whistlers mountain, and the Icefield Parkway), it is quiet and clean, has some small playgrounds throughout, and is well-equipped. The sites are rather close together and not so private in the full-hook-up area, but it is generally rather chilly at night, so not too many people are outside of their rigs. Most people go sightseeing during the day, and come back to eat and go to sleep! That's what we did, anyway!
Enjoy!
