Our grandson has requested an apple cobbler or dump cake made in the dutch oven this weekend. Can I use a crockpot liner in the DO? I just want to make clean-up easier. I know someone here must have tried it at some time. I figure that if I kind of tuck it inside the lid, I won't have to worry about it catching on fire. What do you think?

They do have DO liners now. I use heavy duty foil myself. The foil is wide enough to easily fit a 12 inch DO without any seams. WalMart has the foil liners if you want to go that way.

I have some of the DO liners but I usually either line it with foil or use the pre-formed foil pans. Both make cleanup a snap.

Hi,

No, I wouldn't use a crockpot liner in a Dutch oven. Some of the sporting goods stores do carry Dutch over liners. I know Sportsman's Warehouse does if you have one close by.

Here's a link to the manufacturer, they do sell over the Internet but you've got to by a ½ case (30 liners).

Good luck and happy cooking!

For historic baking we use loaf pans in the oven. You just need to use a couple of 1/2 inch thick stones to raise the pan off the bottom to prevent burning. I guess to make it easy and non-historic you could use your pyrex in there. Works great...has for a couple of hundred years.

Found Dutch Oven Liners in the Camping Section of Walmart Just the other day. Plan to try them out this weekend when I head to the mountains. Hope they work.

The dutch oven liners do work as long as what you are cooking does not have too much liquid. They would be fine for the cobbler. Clean up is still easy, just wipe it clean with a paper towel. I have used them a few times but prefer the heavy duty foil. That way, if there are any leftovers (which is rare), I can just fold it up and save it in the foil.

I've always used a piece of the wide foil in ours. The area to protect is the side where it tends to stick the worst. The foil will invariably allow some syrup to escape on the bottom, but it has never burned on ours, and being water soluble its easy to clean.
Most of the liners leak a little in my crocks, so?

By the way, if you haven't already, try a spice cake mix for your apple cobbler.

The link Chuck provided is a good one. We ordered the liners and they fit perfectly inside a 12" DO. I emailed the manufacturer about perhaps getting liners for a 10" DO. He replied that there were no plans in the immediate future for other sizes. Too bad since I just bought a 10 incher.

I have seen two types of DO liners. One is an aluminum foil type, the other is much like parchment paper. I wouldn't do a cobbler in the parchment. Like many others, I just line mine with heavy duty aluminum foil.
