Well.. On my class A the valve can indeed "open itself" if I store a hose in there and snag the T-handle when I pull the hose out. (Ok, so it did not self open)
Sounds like you have a plan for solving it.. Alternative would be six inch pipe "T and some pipe and a cap.. Basically you are going to cut the "T" in half, install a hinge, open it up like a clam shell, wrap it around the "T" valve, and run a bolt through it with a hole in the end, padlock goes in the hole

I once had a trailer when traveling the black water valve would partially open on it's own. I ended up replacing the valve and never had the problem again.
kallmebd: Is this a problem? Must be something new. YES
Deb and Ed M: Doesn't your compartment lock?? NO, but it will from now own, I'm going to put some sort of lock or make a lockable hinged cover for the valve.
joanne0012: For many trailers and Class C's, the valve isn't inside a compartment. My Camper is A fifth Wheel. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.
lat471: Mine aren't in a compartment but in 30 years I've never had anyone pull the valve as a prank or for another reason either. I hope nobody pulls the valve on your's either.
Dianne and Tom: Very curious here, has anyone actually opened yours??
I tell you what, look at my shoes, I don't think you'll like what you

I don't know if it was a Prank or an accident , but a good friend ended up having a second shower!
It seems that the space between the 2 Valves and the Cap allows a fair amount of room for a Liquid Surprise to happen!
You should always check to see that the Shutoff Valves are closed before reattaching the End Cap and of course be aware there may be something in the first section of Drain Pipe before just untwisting the Cap!

Yikes, I didn't mean to put you on the defensive; I was responding to the post before mine, that asked, "Doesn't your compartment lock??" I just wanted to point out that many of us are vulnerable to this sort of potential prank since the valve isn't in a compartment, it's just sitting out in the open.
BREWCO wrote: Do black water tanks open by themselves? Didn’t think so.
I’m looking for a way to lock my Black Water Tank value, so it can’t be pulled by accident or any other way. Thinking of putting a pad lock of some sort on the tee handle through the L-bracket that‘s mounted to trailer frame.
Any suggestions?
Mine is in a lockable storage bay so I usually don't have a problem ... except for twice at a private club that I didn't get along with the caretaker. It was our custom to leave the compartment unlocked when not there in case the water needed to be turned off. Twice, after leaving that club grounds, I found the black valve open. We have since quit the club, and they expelled the groundskeeper for various other things. The valve being open never happened anywhere else and never before or after. So we know who did it.

I watched a kid contemplate pulling ours. My first reaction was to yell at him, but I decided to see the show. I guess he thought about it another second and decided against it. Lucky for him, eh?
