I recently read that the portion of the Grand Loop between Tower-Roosevelt and Canyon Creek is not advisable for towing through with large RV or trailers. We have a 27' TT and diesel Chevy pickup. Any one pull through this area? Any comments. It doesn't say you shouldn't it just says that you may choose not to.

Many of the Yellowstone attractions have small parking lots, or even just turnouts, not room for larger rigs. To be able to take in the sights, tour the park with just the TV.

Roads in the park are narrow and twisty, passable with driver's full attention.

We do YNP all the time, and the BEST strategy is to drive directly to your campsite, unload your TT, and THEN see the sites, you do not want to be towing all over the park, with all the lookey-loo's and narrow roads, it's not fun towing in the park. That's why we always stay at Madison and come in through West.

Unless there's a good reason to tow around the park, I wouldn't do it.

That being said, the big tour busses pretty much go everywhere from what I've seen. You can go to the YNP site and view road information.

That particular section of the Grand Loop Road is the highest inside the park, and is usually last to open in the spring (due to snow). It's also among the narrowest and most winding sections of the park road, making it the least desirable to tow through. Unless you're entering the park through the north entrance and heading for Fishing Bridge or Canyon, you'd have no reason to tow over that section of the loop anyway - and there is a viable alternative: south from Mammoth to Norris Jct., then east to Canyon Jct. (And south from there to FB, if that's where you're going.)

Slow & easy, remembering that roads can be narrow, that there can be lots of traffic at times, and that wildlife sometimes do impede the flow of traffic (usually the reason for feeling there's lots of traffic ) - that will get you there safely & well. I agree, head first for the CG, drop the trailer and set up camp, THEN do your sightseeing!

I have driven that road with a 28' 5th wheel and while it is slow, its ok. Just don't be in a hurry and as others have mentioned, tow as little as possible in the park.

thanks for the info...unfortunately we are coming in from the North/East entrance and going to Bay Bridge so I don't have much of a choice unless I want to go all the way around! Think I'll try this route...I am up for some adventure!

You're coming in from the NORTHEAST?? Well, Dunraven Pass will be a piece of cake after the Beartooth!!

BTW, the north (winding) side of Dunraven Pass has some pretty steep dropoffs with no guardrails. Just FYI. I'm sure the Beartooth does too, and is much higher & trickier. DEFINITELY check weather & road conditions before attempting the latter - right now it's closed due to avalanche danger. (Yep, still snowing up there at 11K feet!)

That would be the last section of road I would want to drive a large rig on. It is doable just won't be very fun. The road is steep in places, bumpy, twisty and narrow.

We are in Yellowstone now and that road is closed. No traffic at all. Also the Canyon North Loop is closed and last I heard the Beartooth Highway was closed due to an avalanche. Check before you get here. 307-344-2117 for road closures.
Saw many MH driving thru the park, although there is the room, you can't just pull over when you want in a MH as you can with a tow car. We have been seeing alot more since we can stop at more places.
