If we stopped to think about the potential for disaster that exists when we drive a vehicle as heavy as a class B motorhome with its miriad of mechanical, electrical and gas systems, we might wisely decide to never leave the driveway.

I, for one, have decided that I prefer to enjoy my life by using my Class B. I'm with Handbasket in the opinion that many of the warnings in most owner's manuals are written by the Legal Department in the spirit of CYA risk management.

I'll take my chances by operating the three-way fridge in the mode that works the best in my particular application - propane - while driving. I will turn it off when logic dictates that I do so or when I am required to.

Overly-dramatic "Sigh," yourself. It's your opinion. Opinion is not absolute fact. You hold one, Rodger and I hold another. But you're _never_ going to get that point, so there's no sense in arguing further.

BTW, the next time you attack Rodger like that for expressing himself in this forum, you're going into my 'blocked ****' file.

Throw my 2-cents in here.

What do the truckers use to keep their big refrigerator trailers cold/frozen? Thought I've seen propane tanks hangin' underneath them.

Wonder when they turn them on and off when running cross-country and within cities and towns?

Here is a question I have:

When on the road, how many of you actually turn off the main gas at the tank area (at the rear of the RT in my case), rather than just shut off the reefer gas and switch to DC? This question may have been answered already in this thread but I am a little lazy to read the whole thing tonight.

I never turn mine off.

...oh, as been said, this topic has been discussed and pondered and joked and dismayed adnauseam. Whatever you choose to do, do it safe!

I load our freezer up with ice and frozen foods, and everything stays good and cold until we get to our destination; then again, I live in Oregon.

Good Luck,

We run DC on the road, propane when stopped. It does make me sort of nervous with the propane on while driving but so does the gas fill line on our Pop 210 that resides inside the left fenderwell!!!!

Regarding the burned up RT in the pictures: If the tank was overfilled and the relief valve did a prolonged release into the van as seems the case, and as evidenced by your observations, having the valve shut wouldn't have done one bit of good so the burned up van pictures don't relate to this discussion at all. If you overfill your propane tank, and it gets hot, it WILL relieve the pressure. There's a very large warning in the owners manual regarding this hazard. Seems to me that the person that filled your tank owes you a Roadtrek.

I have poll results for this question (as it relates to B vans)

The number of respondents is not large but the results show basically a 50/50 split for those who drive with the fridge on propane and those who don't.

Do the results of the poll mean that half of the respondents are right?

Of course not - it means half of them are wrong!
