Oh...that's so sad!!! We've been getting small flakes all day long but not sticking ...we're at 4500 feet. This is SOOOO odd for global warming!!!

...the news is adding the conditions were gusts to 71 knots, temps at 6 degrees. By some luck, 3 doctors were on the mountain, near the hikers, apparently may have saved the remaining two....our mountains have to be respected, essentially all year around. They are still socked in....

My sister & I were up at Paradise Inn last week and there was still 14ft of snow around the lodge. We saw a lot of backpacker's heading up to Camp Muir though. Coming from Georgia, I had never seen anything like it! Snow pouring out of the sky-we had about 5-6 inches just in the 2 days we we up there. Laura got her snowshoes out and tromped around a bit, but stayed within site of the lodge. I was too chicken. Kind of avalanche-y looking to me. Hope they get those hikers down safely.

It's sad when it happens, we lost three climbers here about three years ago. One was found in a snow cave and the other two were never found. I'm sorry but I feel that anyone going up on a snow covered mountain should be Forced to carry a locator or not allowed to climb. These mountains are on U.S. forest service land but it's the locale county's that usually foots the bill for the search and rescue.

....right now the doctors are with them at Camp Muir, but the visibility has been about 50 feet all day. They can't come down, rescue can't go up, and the chopper can't move. Stuck.......

Sad story. We are on I-90, just outside Seattle, the temp is 40 degrees with snow all along beside the road.
