My son drives back and forth to work from camping. I also try to make it interesting for them by allowing them to bring friends,.. Its not uncommon for us to have 4-6 extra kids in tow. All follow my rules, which make the campgrounds rules seem like childs play, and if they behave, they come again, if not, they arent invited back.

jellen, Where do you put all those kids? Do you put up a tent? That is what we would have to do. And an extra vehicle.

I don't like the "teen bashing" goin on here. Like it or not, this is the next generation of leaders. My boys made some mistakes as teens but turned out to be great guys. Try to compromise, if they don't want to go camping, fine. Stay home for a few years if you raised them not to be trusted.

I dont really think this is teen bashing....all teens in general cant be trusted....has nothing to do with how you raised them....has alot to do with hormones...I have seen teen's raised in great homes and everything done right and turn out bad...I have seen teens raised in crappy homes and no supervision or guidance turn out to be good people .....so go figure....we love our kids and do the best we can...Yes I want my teenager to go camping with us...but sometimes he chooses to stay home...he is a great kid...can I trust him....NOT ON YOUR LIFE....

It's sad that you can't trust your child. It's not hormones, it's the person YOU raised them to be.

Not to get off topic, but....

Have you seen how the young folk go job hunting? I see bunchs that go together, 2 and even 3 go into a business ask for work as a pack and fill out applications as a group activity. Then want to be interviewed all at the same time. Crazy.

My favorite: When they show up to an interview in a pair of ratty ripped jeans, t-shirt, flip flops chewing gum. Seen more than my share of this.

Pants are okay (yes, even jeans depending on the job applying for) but make sure they are clean, dark "dressy" jeans with a nice blouse (or button down shirt for the guys) nice heels or flats (dress shoes for boys) and please - no gum chewing or snapping. And definitely leave the flip flops at home!

After a decade of teaching secondary school you'll never convince me all kids are trustworthy and parents are always responsible. No matter how much you may want it to be true, there are no absolutes when it comes to child-rearing and instilling character.

I have personal experience (as does every other educator in the country) of the following...
1. All teens CAN NOT be trusted. Most probably can, but not all.
2. Some parents do everything right and their kids still turn out to be knuckleheads. Again, not often, but it does happen.

Hi all this subject is really close to home that is for sure. Our 18 year old daughter just graduated high school and the following weekend went camping with us, but she requested the weekend off months ago. If it is a trip she would enjoy she gets the time off work and boyfriend works at the same place and he does the same. Yes they sleep is different beds. they follow the rules and we are happy and she is happy too. My 15 year old son still goes with us. When they dont go with us they stay here at the house with my Mom. So even if they have friends over there is still some supervision. We are coming up on a trip where neither of the kids are able to go with us. but they have other plans. So this will be first trip with no kids, it will be Dh and myself and 2 dogs. hmmm what to do. lol
