Was wondering if anyone has traveled through or camped in or near the Ellijay or Blairsville, Georgia area. Scenic? Things to see and do? General observations? Thanks...

Unicoi State Park is a beautiful campground, 2 mi from Helen, GA, close to Dawsonville, Dahlonaga etc. Also, Fort Mountain State Park is a great campground located to several close attractions and things to do. NE GA is a beautiful area in the mountains, go to http://www.gastateparks.org/ and you can look at the parks and area attractions. Have fun.

We just spent five days in Blue Ridge, between Ellijay and Blairsville, back in April. Did not camp but stayed in chalet. We had a blast as there are a number of state parks around and lots of waterfalls (we are into waterfalls), hiking trails, etc. Also there are stables close by. Helen is not that far away either although we were not really impressed with it based on a two hour stay. You have Vogel, Unicoi, Amicolala (sp) all prettt close by. Downtown Blue Ridge is undergoing renovation with the addition of lots of shops. The is a train there that takes you on a three hour scenic trip as well. We will be going back, most likely taking camper with us the next time. MIL when the last time and she is not into camping.

Stayed a few miles outside Helen in April, at Creekwood RV (small but very nice, super folks own it). Lots of scenic drives, hiking, waterfalls, etc in North Georgia. North Carolina isn't too far for day trips.

We have a log cabin in Blue Ridge and love the area. We have a Class A but just use the cabin.
Would suggest the state parks and in Blue Ridge, go to Merciers Apple Orchard.

Try this, start at Sleepy Floyd campgound just north of Rome, Ga, then go on up to the Ga Elec camground on Texas valley just north of Sleepy Floyd, from there go to Carter Lake , Woodring campground, then wind over to Vogel and Ft Mountain parks. If you dont get off on those, sell the rv. LOL>

Drive across the top to Hiawassee and stay at the Georgia Mtn Fair Campground. Or down towards Helen at our favorite, Moccasin Creek SP. There are numerous CGs in the area and it is all beautiful country.
Stay off the Richrd B Russell Scenic Highway in an RV.
US 129 from Cleveland to Blairsville is also very nice and there are several CGs there as well. (Turner's Corner, Goose Creek) Vogel SP is nice, but sites are small if you have a larger RV.

Bring rain!! we need it very badly

Most of the great North Georgia attractions are walks to waterfalls.

Tallulah Gorge is the biggest and Unicoi probably my favorite.

We think Old Federal in Flowery Branch, GA is beautiful. But that is not in the mountains so perhaps it's not far enough North for you. If not this trip -- perhaps another someday. We took a day trip to Dahlonega from there -- love this little town. You can see some pics of our site some of the CG here.
