I'm thinking about taking a trip to the Oregon Dunes area and I have a couple of questions for those who have been there. I'm going to take my motorhome and my Yamaha Rhino on a trailer. That means I won't have my Toad with me and the Rhino obviously isn't street legal. So the questions: What can be accessed by the ATV's? For example, are there towns that border the riding areas so you can go to restaurants and grocery stores? Are there gas stations that can be accessed with the ATV? I don't want to have a carry a bunch with me and I don't want to have to move the RV just to go get gas.

What's the best full hookup campground that would have direct access to ride the ATV from the campground to the dune area and meet my above criteria?

And another question; We travel with the Golden Retriever and he loves riding in the back of the Rhino. Are dogs allowed in the Oregon Dunes riding area?

I'd call Frontier and see if they would fuel you up and ask what other area services are available in the area. Another place is Spinreel near Spinreel OHV CG

Good luck, I have always enjoyed the Tenmile Lake and Dune City areas.

I have never done the ATV thing down there, I found this site looks like it might be worth membership.

We have stayed at Winchester Bay Marina RV - one of the best places we have ever stayed (been there 3 times and planning another stop there). I THINK you can access the dunes from the park without being street legal. Or from a place near them. I would call them and ask. They are wonderful people - county run.

Stay safe.

I just got back from there. We parked along the road outside the Spinreel parking area. It was a VERY busy weekend, so the given parking area was maxxed. There is a little accessories and rental store across from the entrance and there is an "ATV path" most of the way along that road. We just drove down that to the dunes. We, too, have a Rhino. It was a lot of fun even though the ITP mud/snow tires just wanted to dig at every chance. I recommend being VERY careful where you go if you don't have paddles. You'll need an Oregon Offroad Sticker and a flag. Both available at the aforementioned store.

Have fun!

I have a California sticker on it and it has reciprocity with Oregon. I don't want to buy paddle tires so I'll go with what it has. Did you get stuck a lot? If so, how difficult was it to get out? The Rhino weighs over 1000 pounds so it wouldn't be easy to push out of sand. I'm not much into agressive driving on the dunes. I'm just as happy driving up and down the beach and on the trails.

Is there gas available at or near the park? Remember, I won't have a toad and I prefer not to fill my basement up with gas containers and I really don't want to have to break down camp to drive the RV into town to get gas. I'm planning on being in the same spot for five or six days and riding the Rhino every day so I'll need a place to get gas. Are there gas stations near the dunes that you can drive the ATV's to?

Won't work. According to their web site you can't run ATV's in the park. They say you have to tow them or trailer them to the dunes and I'll have nothing to do that with.

If I remember correctly I thnk you want to go to Honeyman State Park because you have access there and there are areas to jump out to get to the small town to get gas. You are also a few miles from Florence.
