This morning I happened to notice a Yellow jacket entering the outside vent behind the refrigerator. When opened the vent I found we are providing habitat for both Yellow jackets and mud dabbers.

The vent does not provide any screening material, just a series of slots large enough for the wasps.

Would placing screen material behind the vent imped air circulation sufficient to upset the refrigerator operation?

Also found the critters in my 50 amp power outlet.

That's one reason to check everything once a week during the warm months.

Be careful with the yellow jackets, they'll sting the hell out of you. Especially the little ones that make the paper nest. (which is more than likely what those are). Mud daubers won't sting you. They just make mud pies! (well actually storage tubes for food).

Like Don Don said, put up screens, ... after you eliminate YJ's. Clean out any Dauber tubes.

I had some scrap fiberglass screening left over from redoing a door and used it and a hot glue gun to solve the bug problem. Cut it to fit the inside of the door and laid down a short run of glue and pushed the screen into it. Worked it around the edges and on the cross pieces.

We have used screen on the inside of the refrigerator grill for years with no adverse effect on operation. Clean out what you can find as far as nests or dirt tubes and while the grill is out form fit aluminum screening to the inside (fiberglass screening is a little too flexible)and secure with generous spots of clear silicone adhesive sealer, allow to cure for several days before installing and driving. The little buggers can get in the exhaust at the top of the coach too, that project takes a little more time to do but same principle. The furnace and hot water heater stainless covers can be purchased at most camping stores.

I was advised years ago to hang a pet flee collar inside the refrigerator vent to stop yellow jackets from moving in. I did this and we have not had problem. Whether or not it was the flee collar or just plain simple luck I do not know. Cheap & easy fix if that is what is keep them away. That reminds me, I should more than likely change it as it has been over a year now.

Twice a year, spring and fall, I buy a large dog flea and tick collar and cut it in half. Half goes into the water heater compartment and the other half goes into the outside access to the fridge. I was told this would prevent spiders from building in the fuel tubes and other critical areas. If it keeps out yellow jackets then that's good also. Maybe I should put one in my power outlet by our RV pad. After our last three week trip I went to plug into the outlet and found a paper wasp nest started.

garry1p I see you are also in Oklahoma, will flea collars also keep the mud dobbers away? That is my big problem.
