Many years ago, our local state highway agency had an empty house on their hands, slated for demolition to make a new road. They decided to do some public education about the impact of litter, so they "furnished" the entire house with junk found by the roadside and opened it to the public for a while. Appliances, couches, clothes, etc. I don't remember if they had pets and such.
My mom and dad picked up a waste water tote, "blue boy", off of the side of the road a few years ago. The wheels came off when it landed and weren't to be found so Dad put some old hand truck wheels on it and it is still going strong. I see sewer hoses almost every trip and also wonder how that happened.
Lower all mast and antennas.

To the other poster who saw the camper top. You would think someone would notice if something that big jumped off their truck.
May be by the time they got back to it the trucks had flatened it out.
I still would not have left all that junk even on the side of the freeway myself. But I guess their are others that just don't care.
We have seen the dreaded sewer hose and an occasional antenna in our travels.Speaking about a sewer hose, We went to a CG for a weekend last year and got a so so spot. I was able to get a nice lake front spot and to surprise the kids, told them we were leaving a day early. I quickly packed up, left the antenna up and took the sewer hose and wrapped it over the spare tire on the back of the TT (of course I had the valve off and didn't drain any through the hose yet) I wish I video taped some of the looks and response from people along the way.I guess they thought I was going to be the next person making a deposit on the highway. We only had to drive about 1/2 mile to the new spot. The kids were happy and I think some of the people got a good laugh too.
Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go Camping
I once saw an absolutely beautifull aluminum pu cap lost while going over a set of rail tracks. Speed limit was low and the cap slid gently onto the grass. I'd have snatched it but already had my cap installed--- no room. Never rely on clamps; my caps are always *bolted* down.
Heading north on I75 (Michigan) I was passed by a fellow pulling a couple snowmobiles. His loading ramp departed in front of me and shed sparks as it slid off the highway. I chased him for about 30 miles at 90+mph, but couldn't catch him. (I was not towing) I could have told him exactly where to retrieve his ramp.
Headed north for deer camp long ago, I noted some hunter's clothing spread evenly along about 50 miles of freeway. Orange coat and pants, wool shirts, long johns, wool socks, blankets, sleeping bag, assorted socks, gloves and pillows. Someone had an uncomfotable deer hunt. I hope he had his money and license in his wallet.
Hitch-hiking south through Alabama, I came across four $1 bills while walking up the ramp. That was enough to cause me to rewalk he ramp and search, but that was all there was. 4 bucks bought a fine lunch for a tired hiker.
I recently watched a stack of 2x4x8's slide off the back of a pickup as it pulled away from a light. It was OK 'cause the trooper behind them at the light stopped them with his radiator as they were sliding out!
I drive, She navigates and researches places to go & stuff to do, The kid doesn't care where we go as long as we go, & Abbey the adventure pup refuses to be left behind!

We lost the entry door to our travel trailer several years ago. Didn't notice it until I stopped at the campground. We back tracked to the last town we had stopped in and retraced our route. Found it lying off the side of the freeway with not a scratch on it.

We moved!! No more nasty neighbors, no more rotten parking. I am saving this picture just to remind myself how bad it was.
The dump hoses get lost on the road because the the end caps on the rear bumper sometimes get lost while driving. Been there done that one time. Lost the end cap and saw the hose dragging behind me as I was making a turn, looked in the mirror and saw the blue tail wagging back there.
1. A sewer hose on the way to Hatteras Island at Easter.
2. A cargo hauler complete with strapped down cooler sitting in the middle of the lane on Highway 12 just north of Oregon Inlet last summer. Two fellows were standing on the shoulder claiming salvage rights when we passed.
3. A toolbox that broke off of a tractor-trailer several years ago. Somebody with the initials 'RW' is missing a lot of hand and tire tools.
4. On a bicycle ride in Raleigh several years ago I saw a fork in the road...but I didn't take it.

We find a lot of things around the Atlanta freeways. Ladders (several types), coolers, water coolers, matress sets, sofas and recliners, sewer hoses, A/C shrouds, tires/wheels from 18 wheelers (this is a good find - truck stops pay good bucks for them) Tons of bungi (bunji? bunjy?) cords/straps.
Occasionally a body shows up but not that often - then this IS Atlanta.
