Well I don't know were to start ,but my wife and Iare so glad to be apart of this forum and to get on the road to see our great country. There is so much inventory to get, a generator, ext-cord,this and that. So my first question is about electricity. I have a 30amp hook up and some sites have a 50 what do i do. Second- do i have to make reservations to every campground we like to go?. Third- we need internet service, what is the best route to besides the high $ satellite. We are going to be full- timers in our 40's and so eager. Thanks to all who respond and add any other tips.

1. 30Amps are typical for most RVs. 50Amp service is for newer units with two air conditioners.
2. Depends on where you are staying. Reservations are needed at most popular spots -- especially on holiday weekends and through the summer.
3. Look into a wireless / cell-phone card for your computer. I have an AT&T card that works anywhere I have cell service.

Before you buy your air card, check the coverage's for the areas you will be traveling. I believe Version has the best coverage, ATT is a second, Sprint has been reported as the worst.
Your 30 Amp will be besterest in all camps. All 50Amp poles have a 30Amp right under it. You will properly save a few bucks on the 30, no using as much power will most like mean lower fees.
Welcome to the forum and good luck on your travels. Bill

If going to full hookup CGs. Why get a generator? Also be aware. In a SP, and NPs you can't run them at night.
Also. Siyes that have 50 amp hooks also have 30 amp.

We only make reservations at campgrounds where we expect to stay for more then 2 or 3 days....what we classify as a destination. While traveling, DW checks Woodalls and calls ahead to whichever looks good and asks about WiFi service. Probably 90% have the service although many are a pay for use. If they don't, or if the connection is spotty, I use my cell phone as a modem. Not as fast as a good WiFi but more then adaquate.
We have never been in a campground that had only 50A service so that is kind of a non-issue.
We don't have a generator, and have never needed one but then we never dry camp for more then an overnight.

In case you encounter 50 AMP service in a CG, it's a good idea to carry along a 30 AMP to 50 AMP adapter (dogbone).
50 AMP male to 30 AMP female
CG's take reservations but alot also allow walk-ups (no reservations). Personally, I make reservations.

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the adaptor. You should pick one of these up. I've only used mine once, but have had the need for it.

We have Alltel cell phones (Motorola). We are able to get high speed data internet through the Motorola phone tools. Of course, if we don't have good service, the internet doesn't work well. We have camped mainly along the east coast and have not had problems.

The DW has an Alltel air card and uses it when she doesn't have any other service but it is slow as dial-up. We just make reservations at CG's that have wifi. Woodalls or Trailer Life will show what each CG has. We make reservations on line if possible or just call the ones that don't do that. We always make reservations.
As others have said the 30 amp is a non issue. All will have that.
As far as a generator, we never dry camp but do have a generator and use it for various reasons. If we are at the beach and don't want to head home at check out time, we park and crank it up to run the AC and put the dogs in there while we sit on the beach. We can then come back and shower and change in the cool. We will also stop and crank it to cool the camper off about an hour before arriving at our destination if it's real hot. We do the same if it's cold. Last Friday we wanted to get a head start to the beach so I went home and picked up the 5ver and family, parked in my work parking lot and cranked the geny to run the AC while the family sat inside and waited for me to get off work. Worked like a charm.

If you need to plug into a 50 AMP receptacle, can use what is called a dogbone adapter. Reservations are not necessary, but they do guarantee you a site. I'm sorry, but I can't help with your internet dilemma. Have fun full-timing!
