well, I can truly say that it happens to us ALL!!!! But multiply the embarrassment about 100 times over when you have a van parked right in front of your travel trailer that says "L-O-C-K-S-M-I-T-H" all over the side of it!

Yep! You guessed it! It may be bad enough when some of you folks lock yourself out, but when you're a locksmith..... EVERYONE makes EXTRA fun of you!

Just something to think about.....

My daughter & I got locked in on our first trip in the trailer. DH and son went to the store while we were napping. Woke up and could not get out. I guess he had turned both locks. Funny part was some friends were camping with us and their young son came to the door and knocked (yeah we are saved!) ...I opened the window and said "Can you get your dad, we are locked in" He walked off and I never saw him again...and his dad never came.

so I called my DH and said "we cant get out".....silence....."what?"....
"you heard me!"

We laugh about it now because if I act up he threatens to do it again!

Are you sure the door latch didn’t just get jammed up, we had this happen on our madden voyage in the Florida Keys (lol, keys). Had to send our son in thru the clothes hamper to open the emg exit in the bunk area. Then I crawled in and had to take the door latch apart to get it open. By the way the MH people all use the same (799?) key on there compartment doors just like use lowly TT campers.

If nothing else this topic has given me some ideas about possible places to keep a spare set of keys for when I lock myself out.

Well, tonight I went to storage to pull mine out for a trip on Saturday. I can't get into it at all, and I have the keys to it. The key will only go in the deadbolt lock about 5/8 of the way. I looked in with a flashlight and there is a pin that I can't get to move, thus the reason the key won't go in. To add to this, called a few locksmiths, all of them said to take it to an RV place, they do not like messing with them. I was lucky and found a local place that will look at it in the morning. Hopefully Jayco steps up and will authorize a non-Jayco Dealer to break in and replace the lock, the trailer is less than 9 months old.

Update - found out how they get in when you can't - remove the door, then the lock, then put it all back again. The shop that did it was RV repair in Santa Clarita. David, the owner meets you and makes sure the work is done right. Great experience and I recommend them to anyone in the area.
