I am planning a trip to the Mammoth Lakes area and have never been riding there. I have heard of Glass Creek and Hartley springs Campgrounds. Does anybody have any photos of the campgrounds? Is this a good place to ride quads? Any and all advice would be greatley appreciated. I have a 34ft Steller toy hauler and am also wondering if one place is better than the other based on the size of my trailer.

My personal preference is Hartley Springs. Glass Creek can get crowded. We've stayed at Hartley two years in a row and it's never more then 1/2 full.

The area around Hartley has miles of trails to ride. Your shouldn't have any trouble finding a spot with the size of your TH.

Just remember to respect non-ohv people in the campground and stay on designated trails.

Thanks for the response, I will probably be going to Hartley Springs
in late July. I do have one more question. One of my kid's quads is a red sticker, do I need to leave it at home?
Thanks again.

Red stickers are only restricted down around the smoggy areas, L.A. county, etc. Places like Mammoth and Kennedy Meadows are open year 'round for red stickers.

I'm not sure I remember correctly but I think it's the 2nd dirt road to the left after Glass Creek. It's all hard pack until the last twisty stretch into the campground which is paved asphalt.

Is there a stream running through Hartley Springs like Glass Creek does? I've stayed at Glass Creek the last couple of years. If there was Creek by a campsite at Harley I would love to give Harley a try.

And if anyone has any pics of Hartley can you please post them up.

Thanks..

No stream....I don't have any photos but once you pull into the area where the camping spots are, the forestry/trees are much more dense than Glass Creek. I would say 4-5X as many trees so it's much more shady. Consequently, the bigger your trailer and the more crowded it gets, the harder it is to move around. You also don't get nearly as much direct sunlight but because of all the trees, there's alot of pine needles blanketing the ground so there is minimal dust as well.

If you walk or ride to a point directly above Hartley Springs campground you will find the actually spring. Not much to see but some water coming out of a rusted pipe.

Hartley springs is located on the west side of 395 off Obsidian dome road I believe. About one mile after you turn off.

Have fun,

Philip
