Just got back from Mammoth today. I rode through Glass Creek and Hartley Springs campgrounds, both place was pretty empty for this time of season. Must be the price for fuel thats keeping peeps away.
Just got back from Glass Creek, 6/19-6/22, schools must have just got out, on 6/19 we got the last "official" spot left at Glass Creek.......100% full. It was packed! We enjoyed it though, lots of families and very quite at night.
Good times, just was too short!
The trusty old 98 K3500 454ci was sucking down the fuel at 5.5mpg the whole trip towing my Stellar 28DBL. OUCH! At least my wife finally agreed we should look at getting into a used 06-07 LBZ Duramax so I can get 11-12mpg instead.
Is there a number you can call to check the availability of a campsite at Hartley Springs or Glass Creek? I will be arriving there on Friday afternoon and was trying figure out which one I would have a better shot at getting a spot in. Also being very new to towing , is one of the campgrounds a little easier to manuever and park and in? I have taken a few trips but they have been in the desert and trying to find a place to park was not an issue. I would appreciate any and all advice. Thanks in advance.
No # that I'm aware of. Going on a friday afternoon has to lower your chances as I'm sure most people arrive on fridays. I've never arrived on a friday but I've never had a problem finding spot. Glass Creek is definitely bigger, flatter and easier to manuever around in than Hartley Springs. More people also go to Glass Creek for those reasons as well. Two years ago, we arrived on a sunday in the early evening and were the only people at Hartley while Glass Creek had 10-12 RV's.
Have fun, I'm coming up next tuesday with a big group and we're winging it as well. We'll try Glass Creek firt but Hartley and Deadman's are options as well.
I ended up going to Glass Creek Campground. Many of the campsites were large and I had no problem parking my trailer. It was nice being able to ride our quads right out of the campground and hit the trails. My kids had a blast and want to bring fishing poles next time. The creek that runs through the campground is stocked and my girls saw people catching trout.
