Don't recall ever seeing kayaking mentioned in the same sentence with camping. Does anyone take their kayaks camping? How do they do it? How many kayaks? What are your favorite brands/models? How do you carry them? Inquiring minds want to know these and other details.

We travel fulltime so our roof of our truck is also our garage for the two kayaks we carry with us. When we first started we used to carry two big boats, 14' openwater kayaks and two 9' play boats for faster flowing rivers.

Found we rarely used the smaller boats, so we sold them along the way. We use Yakima Saddles to hold them and they've never come loose over 50,000 miles of backraod driving.

We've seen them carried on the roof of trucks, roofs of campers, tied to the ladders of RV's (I wouldnt recommend this option) and stacked on the sides of vans!

Thousands of different options to carry them. Pick up any kayak magazine and you'll find too many different options to choose from.

We'll be selling these two open water kayaks soon to get two sit-on-tops as we find they're easier to get in and out of for snorkeling and playing around on and fishing, which is what we like to use them for most.

Good Luck with your search

Pat

I recently bought a Heritage 9.5' fishing kayak and carry it diagonally across the rear of my class C MH. I've gone camping/fishing with it one time since I installed it. It's really great to be able to carry a small boat along on trips where water is near your campsite. I have the option to go exploring or fishing anytime there's water nearby. Us old sailors hate to be landlocked when camping.

When I was Fulltiming, my kayak lived on top of my pickup truck except when it was on the water.

We have 2 Ocean Kayaks, Prowler 13 and a Frenzy. We have a 5th wheel so a rack is something we are looking for because the 13ft Prowler is a problem due to it's length. We actually put them inside the trailer. They fit perfectly. They have never caused even so much as a scratch to the cabinets or anything else. We have been doing this for 2 years now. We are always camping either at the ocean or lakes. Can't imagine camping without them.
